Wisdom of using 2 Liqui-Moly additives at the same time?

2012 LS460 AWD at 200k

Lifters are quite chatty at cold start, like marbles in a can. Liqui-Moly Anti-Friction has remedied this to about 50% of the chatter, as compared to without. I am curious if it is a dumb idea to add Liqui Moly hydraulic lifter additive in the same oil as I've put the anti-friction, or should I just wait to the next OCI? This V8 has a 9qt oil fill, so I'm not worried about diluting the oil, but mixing the chemistry of the two Liqui-Moly products. Thoughts?

Probably safe as long as it doesn't exceed a certain amount. Maybe half one can and full can of other. Probably less than fifteen percent is my guess

Official LM response! So much upsell! Per the advice below I have mixed the two in the sump today.

Brandon,

thank you for sending us your request.

Mixing the two additives (Hydraulic Lifter Additive and MoS2 Anti Friction) together is not a problem as long as you stay below a total of 12% of the oil volume. Following directions on the cans should get you right near the 12%.

In addition to adding the above you should also make sure to use our Pro-Line Engine Flush to make sure deposits that hinder oil flow are removed. Use Pro-Line Engine Flush at least every 20,000 miles (may be used every oil change) to make sure deposits are removed from inside the engine. Deposits are abrasive and will contribute to additional wear as well as preventing proper oil flow throughout the engine. Deposits will also build at the piston ring area which contributes to decreased performance and increased oil consumption by preventing proper ring function once they start binding in their groves.

Use our oil named Special Tec AA 5W20 for best oil flow to the lifters and to help reduce wear. This oil exceeds the minimum requirements that Lexus specifies.

If you're interested in better engine efficiency use the below fuel additives.

Use Gasoline System Cleaner at every maintenance service (10-15k miles) for a complete fuel system cleaning. Just add to a full tank of gas and do your daily driving until it’s time to fill up again. Your system will be cleaned and efficient.

Add Jectron to a full tank of gas every 1,200 miles to maintain your fuel system. Jectron will keep the system clean, add protection and prevent corrosion.

Let me know if any questions.

I'm not one bit surprised at their answer. Their goal is to sell product, and they made sure to do that. In fact they tried to sell as much as possible, which is quite obvious. ;) Finally not to ruffle any feathers...........JMO

Is this just another snake oil like Hot Shot and Motor Kote or have there been tests to PROVE that this stuff works. I here comments on this site about additives and most replies calls them snake oils that do nothing...or the comment that if they are so good dont you think the car manufacturer would use them....So are there tests that are REAL that prove that this stuff really works????

My ears tell me it works. Lifter chatter before use, none after. Next.

Well then for me Motor Kote works. When I traded in my 2007 Honda Accord SE it had 386000 on it with no engine issues...I started to use Motor Kote after the first oil change at 6000 miles and from then on...I am not saying the Kote did it but I cant say it did not either...,,

I wonder if the viscosity of the oil has changed, and if a fix can be found in going to another viscosity oil? While LM isn't prohibitively expensive, it does add to the oil change cost if you are going to need 2x $10 cans each oci...

I am pleased to report that 48hrs after adding LM Hydraulic Lifter additive to the 9qt sump with LM Anti-Friction, the audible rattle at cold start is 100% gone.

You never answered how you knew it was the lifters.

100% gone? That is amazing 👏.

So is this a BITOG approved oil additive???? Is this the only one??? Everything I read on this site on oil additives are usually called snake oil...

Some love it, some hate it, a snake oil imo.

Agreed. No cheap solutions here. Going to see if the noise remains after the next OCI, sans additive.

If the problem is gone, it's probably not snake oil.

Well than I have used motor kote since my first oil change on my 2007 Honda Accord SE and it had 386000 on it when I traded it in a few months age...I never had a engine problem...so I guess that means Motor Kote is no snake oil either...

I've never heard if MotoKote. What did they give you on trade in value?

Google it.. Motor Kote has been around for years a lot of truckers use it...I got 1800.00 for it. The car was in good shape..the headliner was sagging and needed struts front and back.. I really did not expect that much...but il take it..

I can think of several products, some cheaper too that can quiet lifters, some quiet knocking engines for a while too. Many of them don't fall out of suspension and collect in the bottom of the oil pan in vehicles that might sit for a while.
