Will the "Big Kahuna" Fit and Work?

The Mann W950/4 / Purolator L40316 / Wix 51333 "Big Kahuna" is listed on the Purolator site as having a UNF-1B thread.

The L30001 / 51515 / FL-1A / PH-8A filter is listed as having a UNF-2B thread.

What is the difference between these threads? I did some searching, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer, and was left with the impression that the "BK" might thread onto a UNF-2B mount. True or false?

If true, that brings us to the next questions:

1) Would the "BK" be suitable as a remote transmission fluid filter using one of those mounts that accepts the FL-1A?

2) Would the "BK" be suitable as an oil filter in an FL-1A application?


The key difference between the two size filters is the relief valve of 8-16 P.S.I. on the smaller filter, and the relief valve of 30 P.S.I. on the "BK".

One lousy little gage wire is the difference. The "B" and the # have to do with the actual thread size. Check the specs for a GM 3/4" male thread. Then try to thread a standard 3/4" SAE nut on it. Better get a big wrench.

If you have access to a Machinists Handbook (most libraries have one), all the details are in there.

Why not use a filter that is designed for transmission filter use?

Doesn't B = female?

And class 1,2,3 progressively looser in tolerance?

You are correct sir.

I should have said a GM 3/4" filter stud. It is made to fit the oversized GM filter threads. Thus a standard SAE nut is an interference fit on a GM filter stud and an SAE bolt practically falls into a GM 3/4" filter plate.

The designation is, if I remember correctly, is a 10B thread spec. Almost a 7/8" size. But don't hold me to that till I can get at the specs.
