Many also use the 1516, PL20195 etc.
Would the gasket diameter of these larger filters be an issue for the 2.4?
Would you consider the 1516 sufficient for a 10k OCI? That is my ultimate goal. Currently switching out OEM @ 5k.
Gary's points are spot-on and I agree, it's more about does the oil warm-up fully or is the 10k miles comprised of many short, cold trips? Does it get many highway miles/month? If it gets fully warm and spends a fair amount of time on the road go for the 10k or 1year, whichever happens first.
I would give an 2 extra bonus points to the 51515 (1515). 1) The media is larger, that can't hurt when going for a long OCI but as Gary alludes to, it may not help. The 1516 is, IMHO, adequate for the 2.4L. 2) The media of the 1515 appears to be a bit different. In addition to being larger it's listed as having a glass/paper hybrid media vs the straight paper media listed for the 1516. Generally for long OCI's with synthetic oil synthetic medias are preferred.
The gasket diameter should be within .1" or so. It'll work fine and as I said, many with the 22R (E) 2.4L in old 4Runners and trucks use the 1515 size all the time...
If it were me I'd go with 1515 for the media and consider the extra size an added bonus. A synthetic media filter in the 1516 filter size would make me comfortable too. I wouldn't run the stock sized (little) Toyota filter the full 10k. That's not intended to be a super-scientific statement but rather an opinion on my part
Thanks for your feedback H25B! I will give the 1515 a try.
