Have this wrench that has a worn or broken ratcheting mechanism. If I take it to Lowe's, will they replace it?
Well the warranty is for USA if you call Craftsman USA. I wouldn't fault them on that at all. If they were to warranty world wide, there would be warranty calls from China and they would have to send replacements to China. They aren't going to do that.I tried getting a split Craftsman socket replaced at Lowes, and it was impossible. If it was a set, no problemo. I tried on the phone with Craftsman USA and they were co-operative until I told them I was in Canada....then it was as if I was in North Korea.
No Craftsman for me again.
He broke the USA made one, so...They may but the replacement will be cheap junk Chicom. If you really use it forget it and drop 20 bucks a single Proto from MSC.

That's true, but that's an old wrench. Like 30+ years. He broke the USA made one, so...
I mean, I have a Pittsburgh set of ratcheting wrenches that I bought in '13. I use the 9/16" exclusively to loosen nuts (with a hammer) torqued to 780-in-lbs.Sure but after how many years, the last USA made Craftsman for these was about 2005 (NOS probably sold for a few years after that) or so IIRC? I would bet the Chicom replacement doesn't last anywhere close to that.
OP already said his Lowes has one in stock. That's true, but that's an old wrench. Like 30+ years.
I'm kind of intrigued at how this "return policy" even works now. No store is going to carry just a single wrench like this to grab for you from off the shelf.
Last time I exchanged a broken 3/8" craftsman ratchet at sears was a good 12+ years ago. They exchanged my USA made wrench with a rebuilt one from a drawer near the register in the tool department. I really should have done my homework because the replacement was a piece of junk.
He's looking for his keys.Where is BITOG member AutoMechanic? He is an expert on Craftsman tool returns.![]()
