Have this wrench that has a worn or broken ratcheting mechanism. If I take it to Lowe's, will they replace it?

I tried getting a split Craftsman socket replaced at Lowes, and it was impossible. If it was a set, no problemo. I tried on the phone with Craftsman USA and they were co-operative until I told them I was in Canada....then it was as if I was in North Korea.

No Craftsman for me again.

Why not call them and find out or go online and send lowes a note in the contact section...

I wonder if you can do a rebuild on one of those.

Not sure if it matters to you, but that's probably a 30yr/old USA made Craftsman. Won't be anything close today.

Since Ace Hardware now carries these will they honor warranties too??????
No idea-just throwing that out there.

Well the warranty is for USA if you call Craftsman USA. I wouldn't fault them on that at all. If they were to warranty world wide, there would be warranty calls from China and they would have to send replacements to China. They aren't going to do that.

I‘ve done it, at both Lowe’s and Ace, but sometimes they can be jerks about it (certain Aces have been major PITAs about it, even if I’ve spent money there regularly & am an Ace Rewards member).

Sure but after how many years, the last USA made Craftsman for these was about 2005 (NOS probably sold for a few years after that) or so IIRC? I would bet the Chicom replacement doesn't last anywhere close to that.

He broke the USA made one, so...
That's true, but that's an old wrench. Like 30+ years.

I'm kind of intrigued at how this "return policy" even works now. No store is going to carry just a single wrench like this to grab for you from off the shelf.

Last time I exchanged a broken 3/8" craftsman ratchet at sears was a good 12+ years ago. They exchanged my USA made wrench with a rebuilt one from a drawer near the register in the tool department. I really should have done my homework because the replacement was a piece of junk.

I mean, I have a Pittsburgh set of ratcheting wrenches that I bought in '13. I use the 9/16" exclusively to loosen nuts (with a hammer) torqued to 780-in-lbs.

They all still work great, but the chrome is flaking from the 2.5lb sledge.

The current state of Craftsman is a bummer but a wrench made in China that works is better than a broken one made in the USA.

OP already said his Lowes has one in stock.

My local Ace hardware store will replace it with no questions asked. I specifically asked the owner if there would be any money out of his pocket. He told me that the parent company Ace stands behind all Craftsman tool warranties, but the replacement tool could be made in Taiwan or China.
That being said: This Ace store owner went to high school with me. He has a total of three employees, only one employee working on the first day of hunting season. All receipts are hand written. He might have said this just because it's an itty, bitty town and he didn't want a bad reputation, etc., etc.
