Usually the teams we tend to think of as "all that" have flashy passing attacks and put up gawdy statistics. Carolina seems to be squarely in the "run the ball and play great defence" template; and that may not end up on enough newscast highlight reels for casual fans like me to really "get it" until the point where they're starting to win conspicuously. :^)

All the pieces seems to be in place, though, now that Cam Newton is demonstrating some reasonable proficiency as a pocket passer. Add that to their ground game and dominant defence and they start to look like they're hard to beat. I remember the '00 Ravens starting to look hard-to-beat at about the 3/4 mark of the season because they had a (historically) good defence and controlled the ball and clock. It isn't flashy but it works!

All I will say is the Cleveland Browns SUCK!

I went to bed last night with the Lions leading the Packers 20-0. I was thinking the Packers were done and the Lions might be a wild card team. I couldn't believe the Packers came back and won the game! A boost for the Packers and a kick in the gut for the Lions!

The Pack got a free play on a facemask penalty that should never have been called.
Rodgers was not in the pocket and just brushing the facemask is not a penalty.
Another bad call by the refs.
Game should have been over.
Oh well, that's what Detroit gets for not putting their foot on the throat.Caldwell is not a very good coach.

I was standing, with the remote in my hand and my thumb on the power button, for the last 15 minutes; reluctant to put that game (and myself) to bed "in case something Michigan/ Michigan State happens ". I am a Packers fan but, living within eyesight of downtown Detroit I cannot help but feel a sympathetic sense of hope for the Lions. Last night was a night of some intense ambivalence!

That seems to be the popular view, and the guy probably shouldn't have been flagged for a facemask...what he should've been penalized for is a personal foul for an illegal blow to the head...either way it was a penalty on the defense which gives the offense another play, even with time expired...

Isn't the rule that when the qb is out of the pocket and running, that he is treated as a running back so there is no foul for a blow to the head?
Anyway, the Pack did what they needed to do to win and the Lions blew a big lead.
Packers sure don't look like they did last year.

Blows to the head are never allowed...yes, many of the rules for hitting the QB change once he becomes runner, but you still can't hit him in the head, and yes, the Packers are terrible this year compared to previous seasons...I don't know what's wrong with them...

It really has become a social media circus.

Another thing particularly annoying is the broadcast is 'stretched' to add more ads, than a regular game would allow. I noticed this while listening to a radio broadcast while watching the game OTA. The radio broadcast was about 4 plays ahead, depending!

Then it suddenly dawned on me why 4hrs was no longer enough to record even a college game. They were doing the same thing! When I went back to remove all the commercials + half-time, only 60% of the recorded time was football, the remaining 40% was ads! And stupid ads at that! Clearly all the creativity of the ad agencies is VOID.

With the SNR that low, it ceases to be relaxing and enjoyable. Two plays, then another set of ads? Gimme a break...

Radio is MUCH better in this regard.

Panthers still undefeated. Seahawks impressive today. GB just scored but doesn't seem to be much better than Dallas, at least early in the game.

A while back, you said the NFL was rigged. Someone asked you how, and you have yet to answer them. I assume that means you don't have an answer?
