Will a router slow internet?

If you are paying for 50Mpbs you need a current router but beyond that make sure to google it and see if known issues.



Looked into this some more. Yes, it is a bug in the firmware related to uPnP as indicated here:

So it had nothing to do with your MTU (though I see it suggested earlier in the thread, likely the same suggestion you read). On page 5 you'll see that a guy tested the "MTU fix" and noticed the same speed problem, then did the uPnP "fix" and the speed problem went away.

Supposedly, they've released an updated firmware that has fixed the issue. So that would be my first stop.

The device is also supported by DD-WRT, so if the Linksys/Cisco firmware update doesn't fix it, that will. LOL!

I upgraded my internet service for the same price I was paying before. In fact, it's 5 bucks a month cheaper for the first year then goes up to what I have been paying for 5MB download.

Only now it's up to 50MB download. I am using the wireless in the modem and am expierencing speeds on average from 15 to 35MB download. Through a wired connection....45Mb average.

The Netgear router is now out of the system.
