It would be interesting to know what engines would be on that list if they were maintained properly. I suspect some of them would go away. They may be more prone to sludge than others, but are they really sludgers if maintained according to MFG?
I can't count how many people I know, or knew that had or have high miles on the 3.0 toyota V6 from the mid 90's to early '00s in Avalons, Camrys and especially Siennas that did marginal maintenance, and aside from EGR issues, had no engine problems that were not normal wear items. It could be the weather here is not conducive to sludge as I have not known anyone personally to have an issue with any listed "sludger" except for a couple of the VAG 1.8t's - but at that point VAG was recommending long OCI's, and people often stretched them even farther thinking there was some safety margin - on top of that people used incorrect oil. Toyota and Chrysler did not recommend long OCIs or better than average oil, but many of them were owned by soccer moms.
