My wife retired from the USPS on 12/30/22 so….we bought her a little red sports car { imagine that }! She has always loved the Pontiac Solstice and had been checking them out on the WWW for a couple of years. She would occasionally find one in an EBay listing and ask me what I thought. Unfortunately the ones she liked were always a buy and fly proposition and she refused to buy one sight unseen. Well she found an always garaged, one owner, 2008 aggressive red GXP turbo 2.0T LNS engine with 31,000 miles with the automatic and with every desirable option that she wanted…an hour away. It had been driven an average of roughly 2,000 miles a year with a clean Carfax service history and still had the original 15 year old Goodyear Eagle directional tires on it ! After a test drive and with my approval and a somewhat leap of faith, we bought it on the spot. We gingerly drove it home on back roads and had new Uniroyal Power Paw 245/45/Z18 tires installed this past Monday and it drives like new, compared to the day we brought it home. I was actually prepared to put new tires and shocks on it after buying it because it rode so bad with the old tires. I never imagined new tires would make such a huge difference and the shocks are fine btw. I’m leaning towards Mobil1 5w30 ep for the DI engine…thoughts? I’ll be asking lots of questions about oil, transmission fluid, diff oil etc in the near future.(y)

Does it have the 290 or 260hp?

early first gen DI.. might want to have the valves scoped for deposits.
Easily fixed with some walnut blasting.

Catch can?- no idea if its feasible.

I'd be tempted to run m1 0w40.
or pennzoil 5w30 euro L with 12.5 cst.
Nothing wrong with m1 5w30ep either.

I would probably do a 1 year or 5000mile oci to start with.

260 hp, it’s bone stock. I’m considering getting the GMPP tune that would boost it to 290 hp.
more than hp the 290hp tune has a massive torque increase (boost boost boost)

IIRC it requires some parts and a GM dealer to flash it.

my google is weak today but a quick search seems to say 260/260 to 290/340

Is your wife a tall lady? I'm no dwarf, but I sat in one years ago and could barely see over the steering wheel.
She’s 5’6”” and actually slides the seat forward a few notches. I’m actually the one with the seating issues. I’m 6’4” tall and weigh 240 lbs! 🐘 I actually explained to her early on that I wouldn’t be able to comfortably fit in the Solstice but a couple of friends have them and I sat in them and had surprisingly quite a bit of leg room and with the seat all the way down and back it’s fairly comfortable. My main issue is I have to back up and sit down in the seat then slowly swing my legs one at a time into the foot wells. I’m sure it’s hilarious to a casual observer but once I get back unfolded it’s really quite comfortable. LOL!

Congratulations to your Wife on her retirement and her retirement gift! Also, congratulations to you on the massive amount of brownie points that you just banked! 😉
I always thought that those Pontiac Solstice’s and Saturn Sky’s were cool little cars. 🍻

Cool car and a nice reward for a good career. You really should have had at least one pic including the happy new owner though.

Very nice!

Wow. That is super clean. It looks like your wife's patience paid off. That will be a fun car for her.

M1 5W-30 ep is a good oil. I see you live in NC, so no need for any 0W-xx oil. For a DI car, I think I'd lean towards M1 5W-40 Euro. Mobil makes their XW-40 Euro oils pretty stout.
