Wife picked up a Roos Sweetheart cedar chest at a yard sale on Friday for $60. Nice score really as they are selling for around $300 in the shape that this one is.

My question is, one of the veneer pieces on the front of the chest has chipped. It is approx a 5x5 square and looks like it would be simple to replace. Where can I find veneer pieces and is it as simple as it looks?

Wood veneer is expensive - how thick is it? What wood? Most lumber yards and Home centers carry veneer.Sometims its better to find junk furniture being thrown out with the trash sporting the correct wood, then you can saw that to size as a replacement piece.

Rockler or Woodcraft would be the best choice since you can actually see the veneer. I'd even take the chest into the store and get one of the employees to help you out. They'll see if they have the right veneer and tell you what you need to fix it.
