I have a new Honda truck with the v6 VTEC engine. It only has a little more than 3000 miles on it and I just started using LC by adding it to the factory fill. The OLM is suppose to be rather sophisticated and the manual says to change oil only when it tells you to, or one year, whichever comes first. Because I only put a few miles a day on the truck and it seldom really "warms up", I wanted to protect it as best I could and not depend on some arbitrary mileage/month kind of OCI, but rather go with the technology in the OLM.
My old habits however are hard to break, ie, 5000 mile OCI no matter what. I have learned that for my kind of driving, 5000 miles (about 7 or 8 months for me), is very hard on oil. I believe that by using LC in the oil (and FP in the gas) I will be able to keep the oxidation and other short trip/storage problems from starting. Also, the LC should allow me to go the long OCI of the OLM (most owners report the service due notice comes on between 5,000 and 7,000 miles, depending on driving habits).
Since the engine is new and clean, I am hoping this "preventative" medicine John spoke of will keep my Honda motor that way for a long time.
