Why the huge obsession with adding MMO?

I admit that there are many who have seen a benefit, but lets not pretend that all who have used it have.

I'll just add, the knife cuts both ways. The MMO antis constantly argue too, the only main difference is the majority of them never tried MMO. Their arguement is based on what they think, or heard from a friend, of a friend, of a friends grandfather. A real shame that we waste so much time and bandwidth on it. You are correct we will see this argument over and over again.

Maybe in 2011 something new to argue over will come up! LOL :) At the end of the day this is still a great site with a lot of good members.

My opinion on the "lack of harm" thing is: If you have a situation that could possibly benefit from it, and it hasn't been shown to do anything bad, give it a try. The worst that happens is it doesn't help.

Some admit they haven't, and others just say "it's bad", or "it's not needed", without giving any evidence that can be backed up by experience.

Good Lord, can't we just all agree to disagree and let this thread die?

Bottom line, if you use MMO and like it, use it. If you don't use it then so what? Why take up all the time and effort to bash MMO here? We have used up 19 pages of arguments for and against MMO, and still the simplest outcome is, use MMO if you like it and it works for you, and don't use it if you don't like it or don't want to use it, whatever your reasons may be. But there is no good reason to use up so much forum space bashing any product to this degree.

I personally think this thread has gone as far as it needs to go.

Jimmy, that's fine and good. You're missing the interactive reactive components. It's not that "static".

If you're going to have the willful promotion of the merits of something, then you're going to have opposing points of view counter them.

So, unless those who use MMO stop proclaiming it a miracle mechanic in a can (which they have every right to feel) you are ABSOLUTELY going to have those who don't think it has value offering their thoughts on it too.

No one is ever willing to concede anything. Everyone needs the last word and will continue with the same combative posture. In everyone's mind is that to remain silent is a passive endorsement by default.

I noted it when it started here. At some point some threads turned from making points and pondering various things (weighing them in the open forum for peer review) to assertive arguing for the sake of making your point prevail. It was kinda hard to nail down at first.

It's a very curious thing for me. Post only good things about "your" product. Only post detracting, passively perhaps, things about what you believe is "your" competition ...all with allegedly having no dog in the fight other than you use a given product.

Where's the rational mindset where that adds up? It's like some Cold War anxiety where you have no other purpose than to sabotage your perceived opponent.

I used MMO once, 15 years ago, in my 1985 VW Golf. The lifters were "noisy". I added some MMO and it actually helped quiet them totally. I've not used it since. I've not needed it. I however use LCD's LC20 & FP60 and they have helped me with other problems in my current vehicles. I like the fact they don't provide shock treatment to either the oil or the fuel. They are both slow gentle & efficient cleaners and lubricants.

I've been here a long time and read many threads, you get to know certain people and who has an agenda and who shoots from the hip. I have a pretty good idea who is using what. I don't know you yet have you tried it? If I had to guess I'd say you probably didn't use it or maybe tried it once. I usually don't guess though, I wait a while and then have an idea based on posts.

Jabbing a stick in your eye has been proven to cause damage!! MMO hasn't been proven to cause damage.

take it from me, needle nosed pliers in your eye dont go too well, i'd rather have MMO in them than that again.

Actually MMO is working for most of the members who have tried the product, check the Oil Additive Section and you will see that there are no LOCKED MMO Threads.

MMO is actually getting alot of time here because of satisfied users and that just upsets certain members. When a product works as advertised you tend to hear about it more than a product that does not work as advertised.

C3PO throw some MMO into your sludged up engine and see what it does... Then post follow up pictures... That should prove the naysayers wrong.

Actually I did throw some MMO into my Uncle's GUNKED up 1979 Pontiac Bonneville, of course my Uncle did neglect his oil changes and I did replace his clogged up PCV Valve, he does not drive it much, but I will keep everyone posted, MMO has been in there for 2000 miles and all is well.

Not sure if it an obsession but for me MMO is versatile, i use it in oil and gas, use it in air tools and to clean guns.
Not to many product i know of that can be used for that many applications.

Demarpaint, if you'd actually spend some extra time reading the actual thread rather than posting so much and then you would know that I have tried MMO and it did nothing for me (I actually lost MPG on the van). Also, if you have been here so long and then you would know as well that there are many people who have stated that MMO has done nothing for them. I am not denying that MMO has done wonders for many, I'm just laughing at the ridiculous argument that those who state that MMO has done nothing for them have never tried it.
