Why The Distaste For The Tiguan?

Consumer Reports isn’t worth lining a birdcage with. I used to be a subscriber and bought several items based on their reviews. The products ended up being garbage.
It's interesting how most of the people that pooh-pooh CR are the ones that drive the worse cars around: VW's, Jeeps, Chrysler products, Italian cars, British cars, and other junk makes. In my 30 years of trusting CR, I cannot remember them ever being wrong. Go with science, boys...not emotion.

The whole bunch on YouTube reminds me of Motorweek for Willows

A “survey” of a few hundred thousand people asking them to rate their own vehicles is hardly scientific at best and is statistically irrelevant for too small of a sample size. They claim “more than 300,000 vehicles” for their annual survey out of almost 15,000,000 sold in 2021. At worst, they’re basing their ratings on 2% of the entire fleet sold in a year, at best 2.7%. 🤣

Not to mention, most people have no idea what's going on with their car. Ever talk to a coworker that has their car in for repair? They can't tell you what's being done to it, they have no clue. CR is sampling that same group.

I don't like them because they purposely lied in order to get the Suzuki Samurai pulled from the US market.

I love it when someone comes on here and suggests that so many people own and drive cars that are crappy. I guess anyone that owns and drives the cars that you mentioned are beneath you.

Science in general is ******** as people are expected to believe a certain value is a given and shouldn't be questioned.

Water still freezes at 0C. Some things are not to be questioned. The problem is that the layperson is unable to determine good from bad science at which point they subjectively, which is a big no-no in the world of science, choose what to believe.

I bought one of their top rated robot vacuums back in 2018 and it was a $400 paperweight after ~2 years with a battery that could not hold a charge and brush roll bearings that were so worn out it sounded like it had a USB cord banging around in the brush and I really only ran it maybe 2-3x per week. By that time the manufacturer discontinued replacement parts so there was no fixing it either.

It's better than C&D 10 Ten Best List or Motor Trend's Car/Truck of the Year awards.

Also, how accurate is a JD Power survey? I don't recall getting a JD Power survey for 21 Toyota

CR uses statistics.

And you know what they say about stats is..... you can prove any lie with statistics

Hmmm.....darn, I missed one. Time to go look for an Italian car.

JD Power is basically an advertising public relations firm. They have ZERO credibility in my eyes.
Companies hire and pay them to use the JD Power name in their advertising and in return they make-up bogus "awards" that make a company's products/services "appear" to be better than any other company's products/services in their space. For example... a few years ago Chevy made a point in their ads that they won the highest quality award 7 years in a row. PLEASE! Furthermore, some of their "awards" tend to be highly subjective and lacking in context (such as the "most appealing" award, whatever that means). Frankly, I have NEVER in my life gotten a survey from them, I don't know anyone who has, and I'm not really sure that they even do surveys to be honest. If they do, the surveys must be very small and heavily focused/targeted.

It really is true what they say about Prius owners....

Not to be confused with every other manufacturer having electronic problems too. IMO during the microprocessor shortage QC went out the window so models after 2020 are getting a raw deal.

For whatever reason our 2018 Tiguan with 114k remains trouble free. I don’t poo poo CR but it does not represent our experience.
