Why the big push to eliminate ICEs?

They came up with and started refining crude oil because they were running out of whale oil.
What push to eliminate ICEs? And by whom? I'd think we would have more success in banning cigarettes in this country then new ICEs.
People live in their own bubbles, on both sides, and refuse to accept that not everyone has the same use case as them. People living in cities/suburbs with easy access to charging who don’t really drive far are prime candidates for EV’s. People in very remote areas or routinely drive great distances generally aren’t. Those of us in between would be fine with one of each.
I'm always surprised there are "sides" but I fully understand why, and it's not better understood by the general public in this hemisphere. It's a technically complex issue, needing a moderate understanding of certain science subjects and fair amount of studying to understand the irreversible pickle the world has found itself in. EVs should not be the focus here but energy demands in general, as @bullwinkle said. Anyone who has offspring should be at least concerned enough to learn about this, or at least accept professional opinion.
See post #22. Some states already saying no new gas/diesel cars can be sold starting 2030. Probably wont even let people buy a new vehicle out of state and bring it in.
Any laws passed saying no ev’s by a certain date? I am not up on it. I know people make all kinds of proposals, all the time. I don’t think anything is happening in 10 years. Maybe 40 years and even then I don’t think so. More ev means cheaper gas so I am for everything.
If vehicles existed that took straight crude oil into their "fuel" tanks to run, then yeah, you could call it organic. The process of refining crude into gasoline fails the organic test.
That's kinda the same thought I had.... I'm guessing in the early 1900s, people were saying the same thing, "why the push to get rid of our horse-drawn wagons ?".
They passed a law saying we need REAL ID to board a plane years ago. That keeps getting pushed back. That law helped make states initiate the processes but since we're not ready, they move the deadlines back. I'm all for EVs but all for letting the free market work to create the demand.
ICE is going NOWHERE. Yes, it is kinda getting pushed- but we as a nation get divide over anything anyways! You will see EVs gaining traction-but it is going to take years for any real change happens. We might see 30% of all cars being EV in ten years. You just can’t replace gas and oil overnight. Not to mention many will still hold on to their rides as long as you can. Any automaker that gets rid of all ICE will regret it in 5 yeaSri....
I suspect that what will happen is that there is a plan for complete replacement of ICE vehicles. But we all know that there are situations where EV won't work. So there will be (a few) exceptions. But most vehicles will be be EVs.
And the metals in batteries will be recycled.

The auto makers for one...Honda says they won't be making any ICEs after 2040...
So, that's their choice. It might even backfire on them but as a corporation, they've decided to go down this path. On a smaller scale, this is like me (trying to) recycling as much plastic, cardboard, etc as I can.
What about the process makes it not organic?
Be advised, the powers-that-be up here ran ads on TV & radio about 'zero traffic fatalities on Washington roads by 2020'.

TV ads (which have zero authority to made people abide) and passed legislation
