Of course it helps that most of you live in low population areas.

The "it keeps the honest people out" statement is a crock of crap. Honest people don't even try to get into your car- There are just opportunist crimminals, and deterimined ones.

An opportunist is inclined to move on to an easier target, and the easiest way to defeat a determined crook is to make your car look like there's nothing good in it.

I have too many things that i *cant* take with me from my car (Apex-i AFC, boost controller, turbo timer, stereo, etc)

That car also has an alarm, and it looks like a plain-jane early 90's econobox, which helps.

I have too much stuff in the glovebox and truck to replace so I like locking mine.

A coworker who lived in a high crime part of town got tired of people breaking his car window and ripping the dash apart, but high crime was just part of the area and it was hard to stop. He finally put a bottle of booze laced with rat poison in the car, and the next time that his car was broken into the booze was gone too. Not much different than being in other parts of the country, where one would get shot instead.

My concern is safety. There have been several reports lately of kids getting into cars and they are found dead from the heat. One was a kid who got into the back seat to play a game box, and it had the child safety locks and he couldn't get out. (He could have if he climbed into the front, but he wasn't aware of it.) Another incident was three kids climbed into a trunk and were not found until it was too late. People were searching for them but didn't think to look into the trunk...... I lock mine all the time.

^ Good point john. Not to mention my cars are stick shift and a kid could roll one without a key in the ignition.
