Why lock the "gas too cheap" threads?

That's exactly it. How do you stay non-political about GW when there are scientists on both sides of the issue? You can't.

Just like you can't non-politically discuss higher oil prices in other parts of the world without discussing taxes.

Not everyone believes it's best that the European mass transit model becomes America's future, either.

These are all beliefs people hold deeply, on both sides of the issues. They're by nature rooted in politics, and it's why discussions turn heated.

If the owners of this site want to avoid that, that's their decision. I try not to be too political here and save it for other more appropriate sites.

The rules are what they are. Everyone here agreed to them when they signed up. There was no ambiguity and the rules haven't changed. If you didn't want to follow them you shouldn't have signed up-simple as that. I prefer the hot button items remain elsewhere, and BITOG attempt to continue to be a board with quality information.

There was an RSP board once, but the malcontents discovered that it's not easy running a discussion forum and packed it in not long after it began.

Oil is necessary political. It's strictly government controlled at every step. From it's extraction, transportation, refining, usage, allowed additives in lubricants, mandated additives in gas, disposal, etc..etc..

It's always interested me how a board that is all about one of the most political topics out there has a no politics rule.

Is it just me, or does anyone else agree that there is nothing inherently political about global climate change?
Does the price of fuel influence consumption?
Nothing really political in arguing whether there is an increase in average temperatures influenced by the activities of the species at the top of the food chain.
I thought that Bill locked the thread before there was any evidence of political intent, but I also think that it was his call to make.

Why should it be? There is a big difference between identifying things that are political in nature, VS the actual discussion of politics itself.

I understand the pretense of gas being too cheap, I'll say that.

It does make sense, and really is a viable a subject of discussion. I mean, we are all pretty good at analyticals, and of all the places on the internet that this issue could be reasonably discussed, BitOG should be the place.

The board rules are very clear NO SEX, RELIGION OR POLITICS. Discussion concerning motor oil is not political but discussing crude can very quickly turn political. There are several websites that discuss politics but we are not and will not be one of them.

Not quite true, the RSP board was up for a few years...died when the programme needed upgrading IIRC.
