Why isn't ATF standardized?

I posed this question a couple weeks back too....how "universal" can these "Universal ATF Fluids" really be...?

My thoughts exactly. Hence I wouldn't use a universal or multi vehicle ATF in most cases. Only exception I can think of off hand was if I had a Honda that used Z1, I'd get that stuff out fast, almost anything is better than that.

Different friction materials, different reaction surfaces, different control systems.

Conventional CVTs work on FRICTION not TRACTION.

IVTs work on TRACTION.

Just thought it would help.
