Why haven't gas prices gone down?

Peru, IL. Was $2.49 then down to $2.39 then up to $2.55 last week. Still pretty good. QT was the leader, Shell followed, BP, all of them. AND THEN, YESTERDAY, $3.24. REALLY??? I’ll bite my tongue now and button my lips.

However no US administration can survive $100+ Brent as you speculate. If we get anywhere near there you will see US destroyers escorting ships through the straight with an air escort.
Will shippers take that deal? No insurance and an armed military escort vs a safer, longer, more expensive route?

Otherwise look into buying a EV :ROFLMAO:
Come, join us.

Just kidding. I'm cool with people not converting. Knowing I'm saving thousands while the anti-ev faction anxiously monitors fuel prices gives me a certain sense of satisfaction.

Higher oil prices are good for EV owners. Natural gas is a byproduct of oil production. If oil production in the US increases, so does nat gas, lowering its price. 43% of your electricity is produced by natural gas, which is functionally a by product of oil production. They used to just flare it.

This is the oxymoron / cluelessness of the EV big oil haters - BTW. No oil, no EV's either.

That's not true. Many places have little or no oil underground but lots of gas, and wells are drilled specifically to get the natural gas. Gas that may flow incidentally from an oil well is usually not in a quantity that is economically viable to build a pipeline to bring it to market, so it is flared off.

The only active dry gas field of significance in the US is Marcellus. Rig counts there are very low compared to there peak in 2010 ish - like 1/5th of peak.

Gas is priced at the margin like all commodities and US natural gas prices remain low due to oil. There still flaring it in volume a lot of places. Go ask some Europeans how much there paying.

I filled up yesterday at Costco 91 was $3.15 and 87 $2.54 today I filled up my wife's car also at Costco and 91 was $3.19 and 87 was $2.65. I aint complaining...

It depends on how long this lasts. When the Houti's shut things down - which was for an extended period, it didn't raise crude prices all that much. There is a global crude glut. The issue is getting it here and there.

I will post this here so we can see it again on Friday. My guess is as usual the retailers will be the primary benefactor.

Just remember it isn't the military conflict that is raising gas prices, it's people taking advantage of the situation to make a buck. In my town it was $2.44 and overnight it changed to $2.99 for fuel that did nothing more than occupy space in an underground tank. Every station changed to the same price at the same time. Could you imagine ever other business doing the same thing? I can honestly say that if all the electrical contractors got together and set prices that way we would be jailed for price fixing.

Saving thousands? My electric bill last month was $700 and that's without charging any vehicles. If I had electric cars I couldn't afford to drive them. That plus I'm in a spot where solar would be useless. The sunlight we get here everybody else got a week ago. These great big ole hills block the sun.

Does your power company offer time of use pricing?

Might want to look into that and a home battery backup system you can program to cover the most expensive times of the day and recharge at night.
