Why haven't gas prices gone down?

Topped off yesterday at Chevron. 91 octane E10 at $4.59.

The other two nearby Chevron stations were $4.99 & $5.38 so figured I’d top off before this one decided to raise its prices closer to the others. There’s a Shell & 76 at the same intersection as the Chevron I stopped at. Shell was slightly more, 76 slightly less but both of those stations are more difficult to enter/exit for the direction I was heading.

Arco nearby as well but I won’t use a card there. I’m at a 100% rate of having to cancel cards & get new ones due to theft at Sacramento area Arco stations. Cash is king there.

Also noticed a Mobil station that offers something like $0.40/gallon discount for cash. They’re already overpriced so not much savings but I’ve never seen such a large cash discount before. Will snap a pic next time I drive by it

Call me crazy, taking into account inflation gasoline is one of the cheapest products you can buy today.
Only thing that adds to the price really is the local, state and federal taxes you allow to be placed on it.
Ok, so maybe I am crazy:D But I remember paying over $1.00 a gallon decades ago and the other day I paid $2.59 that's over 40 years later.

For sure gasoline is a good value comparatively, but if you overlay a chart with the crude price it should be much lower. Were banging along some longer term lows without even adjusting for inflation. 🤷‍♂️

Hops between 2.40 and 2.99 NE ohio
Getgo advantage pay type deals upto 30 cents cheaper.

Last week purchased 30 gallons "free" at getgo but the price was 2.22 before perks.
next day 2.89adv pay/ 2.99
Already back down to 2.47advantage pay / 2.77(any other pay)

You get 3 cents per perk point vs 2 if you redeem on 30 gal of gas..
I'm currently at 19.50 off on gas .. so about another 240gallons "free" at $2.50

Top Tier now, although super went from 93 octane to 92 octane.

Gasoline has always been a crooked money grab, prices up and down, different prices at different stations , price gouging
There is always the argument that there is no profit in selling fuel , but stations are everywhere

where can i find this chart?

where can i find this chart?
Oh gosh… if I can figure it out or my browser history goes back that far and I didn’t clear it out. I’ll let you know.. a few weeks of my post in here probably amount in the hundreds by now

However, if you search terms like gasoline, price adjusted for inflation over the decades and click images you might and we’ll find similar charts.
Other terms might be price of gasoline adjusted for inflation since the 1970s

I will let you know if I run into it

$2.39 here until couple days ago. Up to $2.55. If I go five miles in any direction price jumps 20-30 cents. We have QT that everyone has to compete with. I go to Shell across the street and use my fuel saver card.

$2.99 and suddenly dropped to $2.68. I’ll take that over the $4 I paid a few years ago. I filled up my Jerry can last night for $3.97 for rec fuel. I let my Mperks at Meijer build up and cash them in for $1 off per gallon. 30 gallons of fuel is better than the $10 off in store that it’s worth.

It's weird though. Near me it seems always goes up on a Tuesday and falls on a Friday night or Saturday morning

Just got back from a long weekend in Orlando.
Really doesn't seem to be much difference in prices in Central Florida and Central Ohio.
BIL filled up at one of the local Costco's. RUG was $2.74.
During our drive to Deland, we saw $2.69-$2.99.
Filled up our rental yesterday afternoon for $2.99 at the last station on S. Semoran (Wawa) before you hit the two gougers next to the Airport that were pretty much legendary for $5.79 RUG.

Production and exploration restrictions have been lifted, and OPEC has actually increased production, and yet gas prices remain high? Why?
Better question is why hasn’t this been locked … ?
Fuel prices have been good for a long while - unless you live in some political Mecca …

$3.29 unleaded 87 Minneapolis 1st/2nd ring suburb.
Price just dropped here about 3 weeks ago. I FINALLY was able to see $2.87 for 1 or 2 days. But I couldn't buy any since my car uses 93 octane, but as we know it followed some form of reduction when regular is lowered.I think it is $2.89 today.
