Why has Mobil changed formulations so many times?

"Seriously, if you can diss a synth oil because of the mineral carrier, then an oil with a synthetic carrier is a synth blend........isn't it ????"

No. Because these esters are for the sole purpose of creating additives for cross-base use (cross-base oil solubility). They are not necessarily considered the same base esters used to formulate a full synth. Recall from my article, there are more than 1,000 ester types with an ester for each application.

Case in point: Auto-RX has certain esters just for cleaning purposes, while Redline's esters are for PPD, reduction of coefficient of friction (FM), base oil stabilizer in terms of both oxidation and VI, etc. Now one of the side benefits of even the lubricating esters is that they are very polar and tend to clean well. However, the esters in Auto-RX are designed to do mostly cleaning.
