Why don't more BITOGers use Quaker State?

I have a Jug of Defy 5w30 waiting to go in one of my vehicles next, probably my Taurus.

I really like Quaker state products, being as they are in the SOPUS umbrella. I typically pay the extra couple of bucks and go straight for Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra, since the difference between Quaker State Ultimate Durability and Pennzoil Ultra isn't going to make any difference in my lifestyle.

I used to use Quaker State High Mileage in my Taurus before i went to full synthetics back before they called it Defy, also ran Quaker State High Mileage 10w30 in my lawnmower then too.
 
I too tried to avoid super tech and go on to the next cheapest on the list which is havoline, my walmart doesn't carry Quaker state. Nothing against ST, I've used it in the past, just thought my engine didn't run as smooth on it.
 
Mobil Super Synthetic looks better on paper and is a tad cheaper here. Not sure if MSS has a worse base stock that Quaker State Ultimate Durability though. Anyone?

In all seriousness it takes a long time to dispel urban legends. I have to admit when I first joined BITOG, QS would have been near the bottom of my list as well. It's amazing what a little info can do though. Now it's the oil I use in engines where I use conventional (all of my power equipment). If I had a vehicle that would allow me to use conventional (I have a dexos lover and a Subie that requires syn) I wouldn't hesitate one minute to us Quaker State Conventional. Of course there is one bad thing about information, when everyone finally comes to understand how good QS and the other SOPUS oils are, we'll start paying more for the green bottle.



When I started changing he family's oil 3 or 4 years ago when I was 15-16, this was the exact reason I strayed away from QS and thought it was just cheap [censored]. A bunch of goobers told me that you were looking at nothing but a sludgefest with QS, only to find out years later that that reputation was due to a certain type of detergent-free oil QS was making back in the 50s-70s or something like that.

As of last night though, one of 4 of our cars just got some Quaker State Ultimate Durability, with 2 more to follow (the fourth just got Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 15 minutes ago). Mom said her car was noticeably smoother and quieter after taking a short trip today, so here's a big thumbs up for QS!
 
I have full confidence in QS Defy for a 5-6 K mile OCI in our cars despite what some friends of mine think. It's a perfectly suitable oil for our applications regardless of low price.

No, traded off the GMC. I am running GB 5w30 in my '03 Dakota. I figure the majority of BITOG doesn't use Quaker State because it's boring.....not that that is a bad thing. It's been solid reliable for years with no big formula changes, and that doesn't have as much appeal on here as it isn't a thought-provoking, trial by fire discussion topic. As we speak though, the price of it locally has risen one cent, so they are on to us QS users.....

Congrats on the new rig! I agree, QS is kind of boring but a solid choice. There's nothing controversial about it, nothing to dispute, no drama, therefore no hype on the forum. But I really like it especially at it's price point.
 
I noticed that Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 has higher VI than Mobil 1 5w30. On the face of things, does this seem to imply that it may be a better oil?
 
qs is a good oil when the price is low thats what i put in my personal cars and trucks .. I dont use my bulk oil because it gets messy on the ride home it spilled all over once and i decided i will pay a little extra at Walmart because there is no mess... At my shop we are pressed for space and are always busy so my car is serviced at home
 
I considered Quaker State Ultimate Durability just recently but after the Menards May Sale and Rebate the new Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 ended up being 3.99 a qt so I stuck with it. Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 is my backup when I cant find PP then I go to Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 then to QS. QS has awesome viscosity index and a 8 on noack,better than PP at 9 but not Redline / Pennzoil Ultra in the 6's. Also has over a 90k psi so its definately no slacker. Sales and rebates have made PP to purchase a no-brainer and easy on the benjamins in the wallet.

Well Quaker State doesn't sponsor Hendrick Motorsports/Jeff Gordon anymore. Now Valvoline has taken over that role.

LOL! Merkava, I thought I was the only one with these rather irrational feelings. It's a great product but...
 
I use Quaker State Conventional and Quaker State DEFY and will likely do so more often as it's now even cheaper than ST around here.

I have 24 qts of Quaker State Conventional that I'll use soon. I can get it at good price almost always, I'm thinkin I will probably just stick with it for good unless they stop specials on it. Engines always seem quieter with it in the sump, I've read it's because of the boron additive.
