Why doesn't Mobil 1 make a 0-50?

Yes, sometimes I am afraid to wear my Amsoil Racing shirt (especially in THIS town!), since it says in BIG bold letters on the back "Synthetic Lubricants"!


You just never know who might pop out of a bush when you've got one of those things on!

Yep. Working for Auto Zone, I've learned that regular folks "non-BITOGers" are scared of 0W-xx oils.

He was good with "getting" the concept of the "winter" rating though, and then made a joke about why he now realized that running 20w-50 in his truck in the winter wasn't a great idea, LOL!

And if the published HTHSV and VI spec's are correct, it is actually a bit lighter than Mobil 1 0W-40. Besides the massive ZDDP level would be corrosive for regular street use.

The only 0W-50's on the market that I know of are made by ENEOS and Sustina and as we have recently found out with Sustina it is not a 50wt oil at all but a light 40wt.


Penrite 0w50 should be available in North America.
