Where is Mobil 1 5w50??

I see thanks. each market appears to differ.
UK has the Mobil 1 10w60 which I didn't know existed.

Thought 5w50 may have been taken off the shelf in USA but it looks like the opposite. It hasn't arrived yet.

Shame the 0w50 isn't available here. Would be great for my old flat tappet high rev boxer.

It's been available in the US for a while. It's just very hard to find. That's what they mean by "limited distribution".
 
It is in Europe and at select certain US resellers.

It is soo much better than Castrol 5W-50, as are all of M1's grades. Especially 0W-40.

I think Mobil 1 5W-50, or Rally Formula, was the first Mobil 1 sold here in Europe. Especially in Finland it has a legendary reputation to be the best all around oil. Nowadays it has lost most of it's glory thanks to the ester-fan-boys discrediting the polymer content of 5w-50 and fast viscosity loss.

If you take a look at Mobil 1's in Russia you also find Mobil 1 10W-60 "Extended Life" and Mobil 1 X1 5w30, which is Mobil 1 5w30 rebrand in USA.

Running Motul 300v at the moment. Good oil but needs changing often I believe due to the smaller amount of detergents in it.
Yeh wasn't impressed with Castrol Edge. After 14/15 months of use it left a layer on sludge at the bottom of the sump!!

Can't make up my mind whether to stick with Motul or try out the Mobil 1 5w50 here.
 
Years ago 5w50 was the only M1 grade you could buy. It had a good reputation. These days other grades of M1 are available, but they are all a lot more expensive than the 5w50.
 
Motul 300V has a very good detergent package...shouldn't require any higher change intervals than Mobil 1

Really? Would a yearly oci be ok with 300v?

Other than that, do a used oil analysis and find out.

Alfa boxer 1.7 1988 with twin dellorto carbs that run borderline rich
Summer: mostly long motorway runs at the weekends ( 25-40 degrees centigrade)
Winter: very short runs around the city (0-15 degres) with many many lights starting and stopping

Uoa services not really accessible here

5000 kms per year max

5k km doesn't seem like much. I think yearly OCI would be easily doable, but I'm not all that familiar with this particular engine and how hard it is on oil.

You can always mail a sample to Blackstone in the US. That's what I used to do when I lived in Europe.

1 year interval should be no problem on that motor and a good synthetic like that.

Good to hear.
I like the statements that this oio resists fuel dilution as this alfa does like to run rich. Especially with the number of pump jets and smooth idle with afr of around 12. Anything less and it runs lean. Accelerates well with 10.5-11.8. Afr.
Higher afr on the mains at higher speeds. Up to 15.
