Haha. I will sometimes buy oil for my next oil change and then change my mind and want to use another before I've used that brand. We got it bad, huh?

You got the bug from being in BITOG . Actually it's not good for your health and mindset. I quit that ( over worried thing ) back in 2011 . Also quit coming here for a years or so , now just on and off to see what news . That all

I feel your pain, about a month before it's time for an OC I start trying to decide what oil I'm going to use, searching the VOA/used oil analysis threads, searching the interweb etc...and before you know it I've worked myself into a frenzy.

My truck with the flat tappets is the worst.

Schaeffer, Federated, Shell Rotella, Delo, Quaker State, Pennzoil, Amsoil, Super Tech, Amazon Prime, Acura, etc.

I wish i could be the guy that waits for the oil change light to come on.. then wait another few months then roll into any quick lube and not think twice.

I cant imagine how awesome that would feel to not even care about tires, brakes..or god forbid not research wiper blades! Not read all the reviews of waxes!

Not care about top tier!!
 
Once you pick a good name brand oil that you trust, why switch unless you have some problem that you are trying to solve? How much better can one oil be than another? Once I've picked a good oil, it comes down to price, convenience, and availability. I am a fan of Pennzoil Platinum. My van takes 6 quarts. After my next oil change, I plan on switching to the Havoline Full Synthetic 6 quart box.

Funny because the majority of people including members here don't care Mobil 1 was used.
 
Mobil 1 engine oil .gear oil .transmission oil . Oil filter . Valvoline MaxLife for older transmission . Max life for power steering fluid . Mobil 1 or valvoline Which ever come first or I can get my hand first . Both brand never fail me . Many years ago I have this BITOG disorder lol . After I choose 2 those brand and stick with it . Never fail me . Sleep better too . Take some break from this site if you feel . " this is better . I need get this , this ain't good enought . I need return this because other say it's not good . ... take some break from this site and don't take nothing serious , stick to your trust brand and you good for life .

I use every I can buy on the price I want to pay. This means I have one more OCI with Quaker State Ultimate Durability, several with RGT, and one with Valvoline Modern.

Oil life is good.
 
ive always liked Mobil 1 and have dabbled with amsoil a few times. Here lately I've been reading up on this Pennzoil with the natural gas formula. On the Pennzoil link it says it's clear??? Is it clear straight from the bottle or are they referring to the natural gas refining process or what?? The Pennzoil ultra platinum is what I was considering then my last trip to wall mart there was no ultra platinum. So I'm guessing I should stick with Mobil 1. My only other intrest is amsoil and the cost is way more. As for transmission fluid, I still can't figure out what I want for my 94 ford e150 5.8L with the E4OD.

Well to bad I can't even find the ultra platinum cause I would give it a try.

Ya know honestly, I've never really been able to figure just what PUP does better than the "plain old" PP. 🤔

To clarify, I will switch to the Havoline econobox for mere convenience. By the time I purchase a 5 quart container of Pennzoil Platinum plus a sixth quart, I haven't saved anything. On the other hand, I could try to find a case of quarts on sale (Pennzoil conventional, or Pennzoil High Mileage), and just use one of those for the 6th quart to mix with Pennzoil Platinum.
 
It's OK to change your mind as often and as many times as you'd like but run your oil for as many miles as you should be, otherwise you're wasting money and good oil.
I like Super Tech, Quaker State, Valvoline, NAPA, and Castrol and I don't see any problem with switching from one brand to another but I only do 2 OCIs a year and I like ro run the oil for the full 6 months. I might decide to run just one of these brands solely if I ever get to a point where one of them seems like the best oil of all for my application. But in the meantime, it's all good oil and I'm sure my engine is well lubricated.
 
I have the same problem
Always think there is a better option.
Like should I run a 10w30 in summer.
Maybe it wont shear down as fast, better base stock.
Gear oil also what's the best
