Having been involved in commercial mowing from an early age, I have experience with all sorts of mowers. Commercial walk behinds are great, but they are much more complicated then a normal push mower.
My suggestion is to find a high powered walk behind which can operate faster, or buy a small riding mower. By riding mower I mean the type with the engine under the seat, and around 32". They do a better job then tractors and can be very inexpensive. Look for used ones in the spring when people can't get them running after storage. (very common in ethanol areas.) Of course I can only recommend John Deere in anything but a push mower.
