Why a Bugatti Veyron Oil Change Costs $20,000

I take my imaginary Bugatti to an imaginary shop for its oil change where I pay out of an imaginary bank account that could afford the bill!

All I can say is , agreeing with you, that it must be a pretty poor engine if they are that worried about it!
I'm curious, does anyone know more about that engine?

Going by that logic, every engine used in Top Fuel is a "POS" also. I forget the details, but IIRC it's completely rebuilt after every race; and after 5 races or so pistons and other parts are replaced.

The engine in a TF/D is rebuilt after every pass. Part replacement schedules will vary, depending on the stress individual parts were subjected to on a particular pass. That can be determined from reviewing the data from the data logger.

Wonder what would happen if you didn't take the engine apart?

It's a beautiful boutique hand-made Volkswagen with 4 4-cylinder engines strapped together in a unique W design, and the owners may sell when it's time to maintain, like pretty much every Ferrari or Lamborghini you see for sale cheap is.

There may be a number of sludged-up Veyrons. 4 Turbos? And we don't know what kind of oil goes in there, or why?

As for Veyron maintenance costs, it's an extremely high performance street legal vehicle.

Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

No. The W-16 is a one-piece block.

Ehhh.. True, but it is also described as two Inline-8s strapped together. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/bugatti1.htm

Either way, it appears I was wrong, though it is also called a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1025686_video-constructing-the-bugatti-veyrons-w16-4

Volkswagen Audi Group. I don't like a car company being called a VAG. Literally.

Volkswagen - bought and controls Bugatti, yes.
Audi - Bought or has controlling interest in Lamborghini, and sources its V10 (now-replaced Gallardo and the V10 Audis, not limited to the R10 for example)
Porsche

No, it's not. From your link:

Quote:
There are two easy ways to create a 16-cylinder engine.

One way would be to put two V-8 engines in-line with each other. You connect the output shaft of the two V-8s together.
Another would be to put two in-line 8-cylinder engines beside one another.

The latter technique is, in fact, the way Bugatti created its first 16-cylinder cars in the early 20th century.

For the Veyron, Bugatti chose a much more challenging path. Essentially, Bugatti merged two V-8 engines onto one another, and then let both of them share the same crankshaft. This configuration creates the W-16 engine found in the Veyron. The two V's create a W.

It's a public forum. Reposts are the norm. Ignore the rude members. If there were not reposts on this forum we would have absolutely nothing to discuss.

100% correct.

It's so rude when people do that. I've done searches on certain topics here and to be honest the Bitog search function isn't ideal.....actually it stinks.

Yes. From the Volkswagen Group Wikipedia page:

It is divided into two primary divisions, the Automotive Division and the Financial Services Division, and has approximately 340 subsidiary companies.

I'd buy a Pagani more rare in the US, more custom and bespoke as well; and just down right cool.

I believe the count in the US is 2-3.

Nothing worse than spending that much on a car and seeing another one.

Do we know what kind of oil it is?

I know it holds 16 quarts. Unless I am again having misinformation.

The Chiron is getting a more powerful version of the same engine, (1500hp?) I wonder what is different. http://m.caranddriver.com/bugatti/chiron

I predict another sold out before it is made run. Didn't they say Volkswagen LOST money on EACH Veyron sold? ..

That Chiron looks amazing. Pic is in the article
