Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

As a Canadian, I have still only been as far east as Toronto. There’s a lot of country to the east I have to explore.

I drove from Great Falls back to Victoria and also took the Amtrak from Seattle to Chicago. What a wonderful experience - so much beautiful countryside.

I’ve also been to several other states and have always enjoyed it - more to come next week as I drive down to Oregon for work.

Every international trip I’e taken has been amazing and really expanded my view of the world. Japan, England, Switzerland, Holland, New Zealand…..all unique places. We tend to stray off the beaten path, though I’m also keen to try out an all-inclusive sometime.

It seems that you travel for extended periods of time in "exotic " places. Travel work is not as glamorous as people think but at the end of the day, it's quite the experience.
Starting to wonder how much the internet, youtube, etc has watered down "exotic places". Except for a few places like parts of Afghanistan, none of the world is remote. Even the very remote Falkland Islands has dedicated internet available to residents, along with Starlink.

Yesterday I suspect I flew over 10,000 +/- homes that never have had electric service. Yet every one of the homes with no electric more likely than not had smartphones, and internet to include youtube. Twenty years ago, no smartphones, no internet to these homes, very remote/ exotic, etc. Today the same Taylor Swift video being watched in the suburbs of WDC is being watched in homes that have never had electric in South East Asia.

Reality is technology has brought the entire world to our smartphone. We can deny it--- but it is a fact. I watch Sean the Sheepdog man heard his sheep with dogs in Scotland on a regular basis on Facebook. Do you think one gets a better appreciation of the centuries old trade of herding sheep in person, than watching extensive library of the herding by the same rancher?

On the other hand, if my three week vacation to Scotland was to live on Sean's ranch, and work the heard with him daily, eat meals with his family and him, that is something that internet/ youtube can't duplicate.

A few of Sean's videos:

Much of Germany, especially Munich is now a colony of Turkey.

To go to Germany can be awesome. Have to get the countryside, explore the churches, etc. My favorite location for a vacation in Germany is Dresden. My least favorite and would never go is Berlin.
This is true. But the best Italian food, including pizza I've ever had was in Italian restaurants in Wiesbaden run by Turks.
Austria is a great place to visit too. I'll never forget the Hangar 7 Red Bull museum in Salzburg.

The poutine in Quebec is the best! Same with the smoked meat sandwiches 😍
I was awed by how people lived on ice everywhere the fellow who picked us up his AT completely quit working- must not have been synthetic ATF. I grew up in California of course some snow in Washington but nothing like an ice city

We ate in some fancy restaurants I do remember wild boar in one

I have flown first class to Venice, Italy. Got on board - got a drink and warm mixed nuts. Put on some (provided) slippers. Had a steak dinner. Watched a movie, went to bed with a blanket and eye mask/ear plugs and woke up four hours later and they were serving breakfast.

Anything past the Continental U.S.-I'm flying first class.

Life is too short.

Been to 38 countries-and all 50 states.

To another poster-travel insurance (medical, etc.) is always purchased.
I got spoiled by a friend who is/was United Pilot(787s). She knew we were taking a flight to Europe and asked for favor. We had lounge access and then upgraded to First Class.

Never been outside the US. In retirement sure, I'll probably do a cruise and probably not get off at most ports as I see no reason to do that in the Caribbean because I don't see a reason to visit a third world country, but otherwise like boat rides (I have done the Cape May Ferry just for the ride). I would do a Mediterranean cruise and get off the boat in most places, but in particular want to go to Croatia. I hear Poland is nice and intend to visit that in retirement.

And Canada just starts to get interesting when you get east of Toronto, which is nice enough but just any other big city. There is Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and all the Maritime Provinces (especially Newfoundland).

In 1965 I went on a tour of New Brunswick. One lady said she'd she had traveled to western Canada - meaning she had been as far as Toronto. Another person was making a quilt to represent all the Canadian provinces. For Saskatchewan she had a grain terminal like you might see at Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay). You can find grain terminals on the prairies now but you couldn't then.

I've never traveled outside the country and have no plans to. I'm not big on traveling at all. Never sleep well in a bed that isn't my own.

I can understand. The USA has a lot to offer.

As a retiree now, I let my passport expire and will probably stay home. But I'm looking to settle down, prob on a farm in TN.

However, I've been to more than half the world's countries in my aviation career. Been there, done that.

That's me with the beard, and Jane Goodall 2nd from left.

I am sorry to hear that. I went to Muenchen in I think 2017 for an extended weekend on my own. Stayed at the old Olympics hotel, walked around the old city and into the giant city park with a full on beer gardens / party in the center. Was a great time, even alone. Well at the party I made some new friends :) However my trip last year my hosts quietly mentioned formerly safe places were no longer.

Never been to Berlin - my visits are mostly work oriented and there seems to be no reason to even get clsoe. Always wanted to go, but again, my hosts more or less say the same as you do.

Just took this picture moments ago of some people commuting to work in South East Asia this Monday morning.

Is this something one wants to travel from the U.S and spend the money and vacation time to experience?

Sure, why not spend a day in a city like that? See the reality of people living regular lives in a way that's different than home. Gives you some perspective on how people can live relatively well with much less material items, especially in a warm climate.
