On a tractor forum that I frequent, they're has been a lively discussion on oil filters and no one seems to know who makes the oil filters for John Deere. This is on a lawn and garden tractor forum but I suppose it would apply to their large tractors as well. Can any of you guys enlighten us? Thanks

My John Deere mower, a LX178 with a 2-cylinder Kawasaki FD440V liquid engine, came from the factory with a Fram filter. The filter was painted black and labeled for John Deere with their part number AM107423.
The Fram cross reference is PH4967 and when disected show them to be identical filters.
Of course for models using other brands of engine this information likely won't be relevant.

For my Deere, I get the NAPA Gold/Wix equivalent. I've always been able to find their alternative to any replaceable filter for anything......sometimes it takes a little bit of research though.
I have used the NAPA/WIX filters on my vehicles and equipment for years. Mainly because I have a NAPA store less than a mile away. My JD dealer is 30 miles away! I have to say I've never had a problem with any filter I have ever used including Fram and others. My friends and I were just curious as to who makes the JD filters....and so far it looks like it might be Fram. Thanks
I know their automotive line of filters are currently Champion E-Cores, which Fram recently took over. As far as the lawn mowers and heavy/ag equipment I don't know.
I have a couple of Deere diesels and the filters are just like the rest of the engine, heavy duty, rated for 500 hrs. service intervals. Whoever is making them are following Deere specs,so specific manufacturer shouldn't be an issue.
One thing I have noticed, for whatever reason the lawn/garden filters seem to be over-priced, whereas their automotive/ag/heavy equipment filters are in line, or many times cheaper than the competition.
Deere is also a FleetGuard filter distributer, so if one doesn't like the Deere offering FleetGuard is an option.

actually a few years back, havent bought one in a while, but the JD AM107423 (fits kawasaki) was nearly half the price of an OEM kawasaki 49065-2078 filter.

OEM Deere filters? I cannot speak for the lawn & garden division,and the larger tractors may be different, but the North American Ag filters are all made by Donaldson & have been since 1915 when Frank Donaldson invented the first air cleaner used on the first Green tractor that had one.
Donaldson also makes the air intake system used on North American Deere tractors.
