Hey guys, I have a 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew XLT 4x4 with a 5.0L Coyote engine. The truck has 113,000 miles on it and knock on wood doesn't burn oil to my knowledge. This truck lives a pretty pampered life, it hardly ever tows or loaded with with payload, mostly just a daily driver to and from work and kids sports.

I am pretty diligent with my oil changes on this truck, every 5000 miles or 6 months. I use a good full synthetic oil, I have used 5W-20 exclusively but have been reading alot about switching to 5W-30 even when its recommended 5W-20 from the factory.

Ok, so the reason for my post is I am looking for a good quality oil filter that is easy to find and I can stick with for the life of the truck. I know people can get very scientific about flow rates and efficiency percentages and this is where I need your help. I don't need to spend my money on an extended life filter that can last 15,000 miles cause it will never go that long. I don't know if I want to be choking my oil flow with a low flow high efficiency filter for this engine?

I'm not interested in any Fram products cause I just don't trust them. I have been buying the Mobil 1 extended mileage filter just because I figured the Mobil 1 name was good? IDK what's a good jack of all trades filter that works well for a daily driver and has good build quality? Thanks

I've used O'Reilly Microgard lately. Own 2015 F150 5L engine with about 110K miles. Used Motorcraft FL 500 S for a long time and Fram in the past without blowing up engine. May have used some Mobil 1 filters on it, too, but I don't remember. About 7500 mile oil change intervals, per the oil change reminder.

I've had 2 5.0 powered F-150s with a total of 207,000 miles on them. Use 100% Motorcraft FL-500S filters. If you buy them in a dealer 12 pack they're quite competitively priced but not individually packaged. Figure out where your Ford dealer buys them.

Oil filters change all the time, so only way to stay with one filter brand for life is not keep up on how they change or just use the OEM Motorcraft without tracking them too.

How much are you willing to spend on an oil filter? If you limit it to $10, then there is a variety of PGI made filters (10K miles rated) that meet that price point. You could go with the basic Premium Guard that's rated for 5K miles I believe, and they are less cost.

No such thing - there has been no instance where someone has proven a high efficiency oil filter is too flow restrictive - meaning relatively high dP vs flow compared to other oil filters. Some lower efficiency oil filters have more flow restriction than higher efficiency filters. There are a few factors why that can happen. It's a misconception to think that high efficiency automatically means "low flow". Besides, engines use a positive displacement oil pump for a reason.

All this.

Like déjà vu all over again.

I am located in Canada and just paid $18.50 CDN for the Mobil 1 extended performance on sale, regular price is $22.50.

So whatever that works out to in American dollars but let's say $15 - $20 USD.

I would not use a motorcraft oil filter these days they been having issues for a few years. I'm using Mobil filter on my F150.

I reccomend Motorcraft FL500s

My 2017 F150 5.0 with 177k was on FL500s until about 150k then switched to Carquest Red becuase of the RA closeout.

If you have any Carquest stores in your area, their Carquest Premium is less money, and better efficiency than the Mobil 1. It's rated for 10K miles.

The new Mobil 1 under Highline Warren is a good filter. Does it say Highline Warren or Mann+Hummel on the can?

I just looked at both the Mobil 1 M1-212 for my F-150 and the M1C-251 for my wifes Toyota Highlander and both Mobil 1 filters say "made in south Korea", I don't see anywhere where is says Highline Warren or Mann + Hummel?

As far as stores near me I have a Canadian Tire, Walmart, Napa, Carquest and Part Source.

Carquest Premium 84502 = $10.99
Mobil 1 Extended Performance = $22.50
Napa Gold = $17.99
K & N HP-2011 = $22.99
Motorcraft FL-500S = $17.50
Purolator Boss PBL22500 = $26.42
Purolator One PL22500 = $16.62
Part Source Pro Series Plus = $10.99
Wix Premium = $10.99

That seems to be what is in stock in my area and retail prices.

This. Microgard has maintained their quality throughout all the other manufacturers' issues/mergers/QC and supply problems.

There are so many options on rockauto.com. Put a order in for a few oil, engine air, cabin air, and wiper blades.

Even with shipping when spread across 10-12 lightweight items saves you a bunch over automatically stores.

I live is Ontario, Canada and we dont have O'reillys auto parts here in Canada. Microgard filters are not something we see up here unless they make them for another auto parts store and re-name them?

Sorry but what is C&P posts?

Thanks guys!

cut and post. i’ve cut tons of these filters open after 12k miles.

I have a 2015 5.0 and a 2016 3.5 eco. Both use the FL500s. I have changed both over to the Partsource Pro+. Seems well built without the latest FL500S problems.

Look on the box in the fine print. Since it says made in S. Korea it's the Highline Warren version.

Well I have made my decision and on the way back from dropping my daughter off at swimming I stopped my my local CarQuest.

I asked if they had the Premium filter part number 84502 and they had 30 in stock. He gave me them at $9 each if I bought 6 or more of them so I got 6.

Once I got home I noticed that they are made in China and not Vietnam like the ones you are showing me online and on YouTube. It figures they would be different here in Canada!!! Have I made a big mistake buying these? They likely aren't the same as the ones you guys see down there which are made in Vietnam?
