I’ve owned a bunch of different vehicles over the years and none of them have ever recommended 10w-30. The only engine I own with a 10w-30 recommendation is a Briggs and Stratton V-twin mower engine. Who is using all the 10w-30?

My AP1 S2000 calls for it, and I run Castrol Edge 10W-30 in it. I’m in a temperate / hot climate. I’m sure I could run something more modern.

I have used it. Anything that specs 5w-30 can use 10W-30 in moderate weather.

Given 5W-30 became common in the mid 80's you would likely need to go back a long ways to find something that actually specifies it.

Toyota says I can use it for my 2.5 Dynamic Force but only in Australia.

I have a couple of jugs I bought on sale. I figured I would eventually use them in dad’s 98 Chevy. It’s driven so little the oil I use is almost inconsequential.

The last time I used 10w-30 was way back in 2001 when I had a 97 Grand Prix GTP with the 3.8 supercharged engine. GM recommended 10w-30 for that engine.

The last vehicle I have owned that called for 10w-30 was a 2001 Volvo V70XC. The engine went 278k, mostly on 10w-30 and was still going strong when I got rid of it. I did dabble with Mobil 1 0w-40 for the last few years when towing with it.

10w-30 remains as my go to oil for the OPE after having dabbled with both 5w-40 and 15w-40 in some applications.

At the risk of sounding super young, I've only had cars that recommended 5w30 or 0w20, starting with a 3800-powered Buick in 2015 (5w30 on the cap - a few years too late for GM to call for 10w30), including our old Sienna which still calls for the same.
I think I missed the common 10w30 recommendation era in cars by about 10 years. That said, I do run it in mowers/pressure washers, and the like.

In my Champion generator

I just picked up a 6 quart box of Havoline High Mileage syn blend 10W-30 to add to the stockpile for the Mazda in my sig. It calls for 5W-20 but I've ran Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40 and Quaker State Euro 5W-40 the last two oci's. Thicker stuff don't bother it(or me)🙂
