If the car has an oil pressure gauge that makes settling on the optimum viscosity a piece of cake.

For what it's worth I use a 5w30 as my "Winter" oil (Mobil 1 or PP) and switch over to 10w30 for Spring-Summer. Probably makes little difference living here in NJ where winters are "warm" and summers "cool", but whatever. My wife's 2004 Volvo V70 2.5 Turbo is spec'd to change to 10w30 in summer whereas my 2008 Toyota Sienna XLE is spec'd to run 5w30 but can run on 10w30 if necessary. I just think running a good quality oil more important than whether I am running a 5 or 10. In the end it's all good.
