Who actually keeps their vehicle forever?

Whats the point in selling a car? You can never sell them for what youd want to and repairs are always less than a down payment or even 1 monthly payment. Ive always kept my cars and the 1 car I sold I regret it soooo much. I would return the money with extra to get that 87 Mustang back. Other than that I love my cars and its always fun to drive them. I will only get rid of a car if its indeed totalled. I intend to drive my 2 cars until theres something better than gas available.

I have a 1993 Toyota Camry LE V6 that has 124,000 miles! The body & interior is mint! She runs like a champ! I don't see me parting with it for many more years & miles!!

I intend on keeping my Hyundai Santa Fe forever, but most likely it won't happen with the tons of miles I'm racking up on it and the harsh winters with all the salt.

300K KM's (180K Miles) and still counting...

I will keep it as long as I can though...

I still have my D150 that i got in high school.. im in my 30's now. It runs fine with 200K miles and runs on SuperTech.
I don't sell cars. I run them in to the ground.

Well, lets see. In my family we have a 1998 Blazer with 230,000 miles. A 1999 Olds 88 with 190,000 miles. My 1994 Corolla has 155,000 miles. Yea, we keep cars forever! I plan on driving my Corolla for a long time. My Dad's Olds 88 is still going strong, and barring anything catastrophic, I think it's got 250+K in her.

My mom just got an 07 Impala and that one will likely end up over 200K I hope.

I made the decision at 180k to refurbished it by replacing all the parts and systems that wear out - suspension bushings, shocks, brakes, bearings, fuel pumps, exhaust, cooling and various supporting bits and pieces. I put a wrench on every nut, bolt and fastener throughout the car and it runs essentially like a new car. I set an arbitrary budget of 1/3 the cost of a replacement vehicle and I'm good for another 200k.

The engine has the same compression and vacuum per factory specs, has never had the valves adjusted and I attribute this to religious changing of oil. I figure I have saved a ton of money on the car by owning it for 29 years (the leased cars were transparent to me as business write-offs).

My first Volvo saved my life and I've been loyal to them ever since. The money I've saved and will continue to save has been used elsewhere. That's my story...

If Volvo still made engines like the old red-block I would buy one tomarrow.

I wish I could keep mine for a while..

The winters are really harsh here, as is the salt.

Wife's cav has been great to us, and I plan on running it as long as I can. My only regret with this car is not Ziebarting every year, as this ecotec is going to easily outlast this J body....

I was listening to a financial guy on the radio and he ran the numbers on a car payment. $500 a month dumped into a safe retirement plan for 30 years (or whatever he used) was well over a million dollars. Makes me like my old car just fine.
It make very little sense (financially) to purchase new. A three year old vehicle loses approximately 40% after three years...and even more after 4 or 5 years.

If the used vehicle has been reasonably taken care of....and has fairly low mileage...its the only financially (common sense) way to go.

Are you far from the Canadian Border that you could cross and have your vehicle done at Krown?

Way better than Ziebart IMO!

You can, you are lucky. It is easier to do that in Texas, of course. :D

We are now a few hundred miles from having only one of our four vehicles under 100K miles. The '02 Sienna is at 99xxx. The other two are 115007 and 218xxx. I know the Vibe's mileage because I changed the oil last night at 115K to get the OCI to line up with the 5K mileage figure.

I find a car I like and buy more of them as needed. I started out with 6 volt bugs 58-66. I kept a pair of them on the road for 18 yrs. Then I found Jeep Grand Wagoneers. In 97, I had a re-manned 360 put in an 83, It is now in its 3rd Wagoneer. It will not last forever. But Ive got a good shot at 15 -20 more yrs from my pair of 88 528es. I bought one in 96 with 150k miles on it and drove it for over 12 yrs/ 200k miles without a breakdown. The car is great, best DD I have ever owned and bone simple to DIY. I have 5 parts cars to harvest from, and a forum with a hundred like minded souls. The whole secret is DIY and liking the car.

I tend to keep my car about 6 years and then get bored with them. My two previous were 89 Maxima and 99 V6 Accord. The Maxima manual transmission failed for the 3rd time and I was tired of dishing out $500 every time. It was towed to a junkyard. The Accord was absolutely problem free. Bought it with 76,000 miles and drove it to about 146,000 miles. That's when I found out that Honda stellar reliable reputation was no exaggeration. I currently own a 99 GS 400 and it has a screamer of a V8. I should be happy for a while but...I've been itching for a manual for a year or two.

Although its not "old" my 2005 yamaha yzf R1 will stay with me.. it can stay under a tarp in the garage for all i care.. paid for and always a fun ride.. no intentions of ever selling that bike. My 06 silverado is on the 10yr plan, but i like it alot, we'll see.

My Subaru WRX is definitely not forever. An enjoyable purchase at age 28 and a hoot to drive still after 7 years. However I am ready for a used fun to drive luxury car with a manual transmission.
