Whirlpool to Acquire InSinkErator for 3 Billion

Emerson has owned InSinkErator since ‘68. I’ve owned various Badger models as well as my current Evolution Excel which has been my favorite so far. Hopefully, Whirlpool doesn’t screw this up. Time will tell, always does.

My old apartment had the insinkerator replaced multiple times per year for the five years I was there.

I had a badger for about 10-11 years, still worked but rusted through and started leaking. I replaced it with an Evolution maybe three years ago to get the stainless internals and that has been good too. It's MUCH quieter.

The Whirlpool disposal I replaced over Christmas was 15 years old and just a rebadged InSinkErator.
I bought the same InSinkErator model so I could just connect it to the sink flange and existing plumbing.
Whirlpool was already buying the devices from them, so might as well own the company and brand name.
IIRC, it was a Whirlpool WG1202XH and was replaced with an InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP unit.
If the first one lasted 15 years, I figured I'd be gone before the replacement failed on me.

I've also had fine experiences with ISEs, first badged as a Kenmore, then a first-branded unit. At least a decade each.

Considered the Costco unit during the last replacement, but their solution to jams, sticking a broom handle in from the top, turned me off.

ISEs have long had the hex drive at the bottom of the motor to manually rotate the assembly.

But I wouldn't be surprised if the current unit doesn't last as long as the prior units.
