which will protect my 05 accord better??

I've been doing some research and reading on here. I have an oil change coming up on my 05 2.4 accord soon which I've read is easy on oil. I'm wondering if you guys would recommend PYB at a 3-5k oci or PP at a 7-8k oci. I do make short trips a lot, under 10 miles, living in New England we see temps from 0 to high 90s throughout the year. 51k on the car, no problems. I kindof have a mental block about letting it go over 8-9k and also for some reason like to stick to a routine, meaning the same oil. I know you don't have to, just something mental. Any good filter recommendations that are available at AZ or AAP while i'm asking? Thank you

YMMV but I usually run my accord on 10k oci with whatever dino is on sale.

I'd recommend any good syn oil and go for 6-7k no problem. Just watch for the sales, buy whatever is on sale, switching is no problem. If you like to stick with one brand then stock up when it's on sale.

There are many good filters available, Wix, Purolator, M1, etc. Everybody has their favorite.

Any 5w-20 API rated oil (conventional is really a blend or syn) every 5k or 6 months.

Personally I'd be running something like PYB, QS, Mobil 5000, MC or such with a Supertech/purolator filter.

Your engine will be protected very well. As well as any oil.

I'd say PYB with a quality filter such as a Wix,Purolator or Oem filter at a 5k oci will serve your 2.4 very nicely.

I own two Honda Elements with the same 2.4L engine you have. Pennzoil 5W-20 in one and Quaker State 5W-20 in the other, both of them doing 5K changes.

Thanks for the responses. I was leaning towards PYB or something like MC500 (because I can't believe how cheap it can be had in 5qt jugs) and a 4-5k oci schedule.

Have you done any UOAs at that interval? Does your Accord have an OLM, or if not, what leads you to believe the various dinos are adequate out to 10k?

Since you make so many short trips, I would use PYB or MotorCraft(walmart) for 5K/6mo. intervals. All the filters mentioned by other members will work great. If you use a Wix Bosch, M1 even a Purolator PureOne you only need to change the filter every other oil change...they get better with age up to a point. 10K is easy for those filters 15K is probably more like it. Honda's seem to like MotorCraft which is very reasonable at walmart, if you buy your filter there Just make sure you only buy a Fram EXTENDED Guard. The rest are kind of low quality.

GF5 SN: MCSS or Mobil Super or "flavour of the month" might be OK to 4-5k in winter - you may want to check the TBN retention with an available home kit. Forget UOA. Forget deals on SM convenetional oils unless they are top rated faux syns like M1 0w40 or AFE or Edge or PU. Mobil Clean is defunct.

It won't matter much, I'd go 7500 on either PYB or PP in your driving style.

PureOne all the way, PL14610. If you really go 5000 or less on an oil change, you might consider changing the filter every other time since it's such a pain.

I use an oil speced for the car and follow the manufacturer schedule. Had a UOA a while back and it was perfectly fine. Maybe I will grab another one this next OCI for fun.

Assuming they did not change the OCI, the 05 normal schedule should call for 10k on 5w-20 dino. My only point was unless the OP is driving 1mile trips multiple times in a day I doubt he needs anything more than cheap 5w-20 at a 5-6k OCI. Honda engines are EASY on oil. Using full/pricey syn oil on an OCI less than 10k would be a crime (assuming we are not talking about super severe service).

I guess I am crazy but I assume that in most cases the manufacturer recommendation is fairly decent. I am making huge guesses but I assume they test the engines on hundreds of thousands of miles to see what happens. I am confident that I will hit at least 200k without any oil related failures and because of this have bigger things in life to worry about than an oil change.

I do make short trips alot too. I have found my Civic does well with PP at 5k. Seems about spent at 5k time to change feeling. This winter in both NE and NY has to be fuel dilution city. So better to sure than sorry.
