From my understanding after reading the Haas links, a 5W30 and 0W30 are both 30 weights when at operating temps but the 0W wont thicken as much during the night as a 5W will so it will be easier to start the next morning or whenever you start the car again, granted that they both arent sitting for a month before you start them again

I couldn’t have said it better myself. IMO, "experts" are the ones that have been turning wrenches for years and years and can listen to an engine and pretty much tell you what it wrong with it rather than plugging a computer up to it and letting the computer tell the "expert" what is wrong. I guess since I don't have a chemistry degree in oil I will never be an "expert". Might as well go into my office and throw that piece of paper away hanging on the wall that says ASE Master Technician.

Personally, I would not. I'd use the 5w30 and be happy.

And up your OCIs to 5k. (really it is ok!)

A 5W-20 is not going to buy you anything. Use what the MFG requires and you'll be fine.

Hi Bill,

So you don't buy into what Dr Haas says then? I agree it is better to play it safe. I will stick with the OEM recommendation on oil for now at least. After the ARX rinse I will up my OCIs to 4k at first and see how it goes.

Yes, however there were 'real experts' on the other side of all those arguments also, and yet those experts were right.

So your argument is more emotional than logical.

Actually for the past what, 30 years there has been widespread famine, just not where you live.

I'm guessing that if you went in for heart surgery you'd prefer it be done by an "expert" on heart surgery, as opposed to someone who read a few posts on a message board or a couple of magazine articles.

Man use your head. The fact remains that millions starved to death over the years you spoke of. Famine clearly became more widespread. Just because there is more obesity, in some third world countries, doesn't change that at all.
