Of the 3 options below which would you start out with based on the requirements listed below? Note - these 3 ONLY please. While I always appreciate people taking the time to respond I really am not interested in other synthetics nor dino oil in this application before anyone suggests it. These are the only 3 that will be considered for this vehicle.

Trying to help a family member out with oil choice. I have used RP for so long I am not quite as up to date on these products as I would like. Especially the new QS synthetics( multiple formulas ). All 3 listed however meet the requirements of the car mfg, are available local, and are in the price range requested. I have always had good luck with these 3 brands in general but have not used these specific ones except for the PP( extremely limited ).

Conditions:
1 - V6
2 - Daily Driver( conservative driver - no racing or sustained high RPM level - approx 15K p/year )
3 - 50/50 city to highway
4 - Mild towing( not much but some - not a heavy load - 1500lbs +/- )
5 - Northeast location so it does get hot in the summer( 90's- low 100's )and butt cold in the winter( -20 below is not uncommon )
6 - 5K OCI planned but usually 7-8k, and possibly as long as 10K, before they get to it( hence the synthetic wanted )
7 - 5w30

These are the 3 oils that have made the cut. Again, just asking for some input as to what some of you feel would be the best option to at least start out with, of these 3 options, going in blind with no UOA's to back it up in this vehicle...

Penzoil Platinum
Valvoline Synpower
Quaker State TorquePower

Thank you for your time and input.

PP .. just due to my experience with it. I don't know the others. A biannual OCI ...perhaps biased to compensate for the winter in a 7/5 month deal. A fuel quotient would probably work here. A top tier filter could go the entire mileage.

For all we know any of the three could be the best oil for your app. PP is highly proven here with tons of UOAs and it would be my choice for that reason alone. What is the specific application?

Thank you for the responses so far. Appreciate it. It is a new GM SUV a family member has. Coming up on 5K here real quick and time for the decision of what oil to run. I normally would have suggested Royal Purple to them but it is too hard to get where they are, at a fair price, so it is down to the other 3 options.

I already had them go out and get a half dozen Wix filters so that is what they will use. As said ^^^ the plan is for 5K OCI's and tire rotations. I figure that will give time for them to get it done by 7K or so. 5-7K is approx where the OLM should go off as well. I have explained to them you don't HAVE to wait for it to go off before doing the OC either. Stick with 5K and it is easy to remember and you can do the tires at the same time. Not sure it will stick though. To them it is just a car and they are not as fanataical about these things as I am.

History has shown this family to be a bit lazy in regards to general maintenance and especially getting the oil changed. I have seen them go 10K on regular dino and a Fram which is just -

. I am trying to help them out by educating them on the proper way to maintain your vehicle. It is their 1st new vehicle w/ a factory warranty and it was $$$ so they need to do it right. 10K on dino and a Fram???

I wanted to take the keys away when I heard that.

So that is why I mainly told them synthetics( besides the obvious benefits to any enngine on it )and a Wix for the new vehicle. I had them browse the local stores with oil and the 3 listed were the best brands and best prices offered. I have always liked Quaker State oils and Valvoline. Penzoil Platinum is highly regarded as well. I especially liked what QS says about their Q TorquePower compared to the other offerings in the Q line.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. All appreciated.

Sorry... D) Mobil 1. Mobil 1 makes your conditions too. I'd not consider any of those you listed. My personal sucessful history of Mobil 1 use and the UOA I have had done over the last thirty years. I'd not change.

Well, my family will not use ExxonMobil products period. Not gas, not oil, not filters, etc... so that rules M1 out right there. I don't believe it better than the other 3 either.

My choice would be whichever of the 3 listed is cheapest. All of them are fantastic oils. Sometimes, AAP and/or AZ will run sales on Synpower and Platinum. With the BOGO sales, you can often get these synthetics for nearly the same cost as conventional.

With all that said, I'd be willing to run Motorcraft semi-synthetic out to 10k miles in a new GM engine, but that's just me. FWIW, MC is usually around $10 for a 5 qt. container at Wa-Mart.

Does the vehicle in question have an oil life monitor?

Yes, it does have an OLM. Think I mentioned it earlier but maybe not? 5-7K should be about what they will get before it goes off based on my experience with the GM OLM's.

The idea is to pick one and stick with it vs shopping for the cheapest and using that each time. Probably going to be the Penzoil because it is much more readily available. I was kind of leaning towards suggesting the QS-TP but that is harder to find up there( and here too actually )they told me. Only one place had the 5w30 and the others that had it only had 10w30.

Thanks again to all.
