-LUBEGARD® Automatic Transmission Fluid Protectant

-LUBEGARD PLATINUM® Universal ATF Protectant

-LUBEGARD® Highly Friction Modified-ATF Supplement

What's the difference? I'm surprised to find that Ford, Saab, and Subaru have actually tested and officially recommended LUBEGARD to fix certain transmission issues they've had in their TSBs. Nice to see a company that can actually back up it's claims. Independent lab testing results are good, word of mouth recommendations are okay, but can't beat an endorsement from a manufacturer, let alone several.

Do they make anything for manual transmissions? Can anyone recommend a manual transmission fluid additive for a 94 Geo Metro that takes 75W-90?

Which LUBEGARD additive would you use for:

-2001 Toyota Corolla 1.8L L4 - OEM ATF: Toyota T-IV
-1974 Dodge B300 V8 360 - OEM ATF: +4

LUBEGARD also makes skin and hair care products, so I can have young-looking skin and beautiful luscious hair.

Its the only stuff in a RED bottle.
Everything else is designed to turn X type fluid into Y type fluid.

You want the red stuff.

Like Dave said LG Red is what you want. Imagine that, an additive that gets endorsements from various automakers to resolve their problems. Some people still call it snake oil.

I get mine @ Amazon. If you catch Amazon at a good time the price is typically better than parts stores and the ship it free.

I work in Ambler and went in the NAPA store there to get LGR. They had it on the shelf. I would call a local NAPA.

I am at Weldon Auto Parts right now, looking.

Thanks so much!

Sure is Florida-like today.

Walking into Weldon's is like going back in time. Store looks like they did 40 years ago. Nice, in a way.
Glad they had what you needed.

Regarding the LGR. What is the purpose of this? If you are changing your fluid like you should, do you really even need this? I always wonder why people need this. Maybe I don't understand the full effects of this. I read some time that it was made with whale sperm or something like that lol? No joke.

If you use the OEM fluid, use either no Lubegard ('cuz you really don't need it) or use the red or platinum. If you use a near-universal fluid that is "recommended" for your transmissions, use the red or platinum (altho' you probably don't need it).

If you use a Dex/Merc fluid, use the black or the platinum to change the friction modifier characteristics.

That's not entirely correct. Take a look at the FAQ on the Lubegard web site. They say that Platinum is the stronger additive that turns fluid X into fluid Y. HOWEVER (!), If your transmission already shows signs of trouble, such as shudder or slips, then you should go with Platinum even when you don't have to turn X fluid into Y.

So personally Platinum is the only fluid I'd use, because I wouldn't add anything to my ATF if it is the correct ATF type for my transmission and the transmission is still running just fine. I tried adding Platinum to my Mercon V ATF and it did practically eliminate slips and shudder. Good product IMO, at least for my AX4N.

This is the only aftermarket additive I have ever seen specifically mentioned in a mfgr's TSB for torque converter shudder.

Trav has posted about significant reductions in operating temps in a trans as well while using it.

It's a great product. We use it in all our GM products.

I use it for the same reason, but wasnt it like one TSB, one time from Saab or someone?

Do you run it with Dex VI in your trucks?

IIRC the TSB was from Ford relative to torque converter shudder. We had a Tbird with a 302 that did it from day one and the remedy was a drain/fill and a cup of LG Red.

I run it in every car I own with an auto trans. That includes GM Fleet (vans and pickups) and my Chrysler.
