Which HM Oil to reach 500K?

Gents,

I recently achieved 400k on my 2006 Tacoma TRD Overland rig. Been consistent with 5k OCI from 2006 when I purchased the truck new. Considering dropping down to 3.5k or 3k OCI. Due to extreme driving when Overlanding. Figured it would reduce contaminants in oil. And increase engine longevity to achieve my next goal of 500k.

These are the three oils I'm considering. See Attachment

Your thoughts which oil would be best for my usage? Have very little oil consumption during current 5k interval usage, appx., 10 to 12 oz. Grateful for your feedback. Thank you.

Maxlife vs ST HM vs Castrol HM.webp

With 3K-3,5K mile OCI's, I believe that any of the 3 will get you there. There are certain additives that I like with each of them.
I don't think that I'd stay with just one of them in particular over the next 100K miles and I would probably switch around and even use other brands as well. But if you want to stick with one, use the cheapest. Most likely you'll be getting many opinions and it may get even more confusing!

Yes like an all you can eat buffet! 🤣

Pretty much every major brand that was on sale.
From 360,000 to 400K I used Valvoline Restore and Protect. Now back to the High Mileage oils. Will use Valvoline Restore and Protect again once I reach 480K for good cleaning.
What are you getting from the High Mileage oils that the Valvoline Restore and Protect isn't giving you? Are you leaking and need seal conditioning?

Neither. The Valvoline Restore and Protect cleaned out 19 years of varnish.

Valvoline Restore and Protect is $26 a jug vs $19 with HM. Dropping my OCI from 5k to 3K or 3.5. The $ adds up.

I came to the reasonable conclusion HM will meet my needs for Overlanding. Plus the HM have increased additive packs. Once I approach 500k. Will do another run of Valvoline Restore and Protect for several OCI.

The only difference is seal conditioners. The rest of the add pack is the same. If you aren't leaking, you don't need High Mileage oil.

And $7 a jug after you've burned $600+ worth of fuel? You can save that much driving 2 mph slower on the highway. Why shorten OCI if you don't have UOA suggesting it's helpful?

You're boxing yourself into a corner of cost, choosing cheap oils based on the wrongheaded idea that shorter OCI will accomplish something useful to you. You probably don't need shorter OCIs. Grab a sample and prove it to yourself first.

What you propose is likely a step backward for your goal of making 500k.

How did you see this? Do you have pictures?

I see it often commented on any posts with high mileage, to just use whatever worked so far. But is that really logical?

For a hypothetical.. If I got to 200k on Supertech conventional, does that make it better than Mobil 1 ESP going forward?

Or for my 2001 Jeep with 200k+.. I used Magnatec blend, lots of SN era Valvoline MaxLife, Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil Super 5000. I can't get those oils anymore, let alone whatever the previous owner used in the early 2000's. Even if I wanted to use what got me here, I can't.

Just my $0.02. Out of these oils my brain says Supertech for the Dexos rating and Synthetic but I'd be tempted by Maxlife.
