Gents,

Last week my 2006 Tacoma V6 achieved the milestone of 400k miles! Original engine and transmission. I'm the sole owner.

Major repairs over the years: Head casket was replaced at 324,000 miles. 2013 Toyota replaced frame. Exhuast headers, water pump, and wheel bearings.

Recently returned from Overland trip to South Dakota. Engine is running flawlessly. At 360,000 miles started using Valvoline Restore and Protect.
See attached pic of oil filter mount before and after pics using Valvoline Restore and Protect.

My humble opinion the 2nd Gen Tacoma is the most reliable mid size pick up truck ever created on plant earth. Simple design, proven engine and drive train. Easy to repair. Curious if Tacoma's new 2.7 turbo engine

I see that you’ve stated that your TOCO has the original engine & transmission. Has there been any rebuilds on any of the drivetrain components?

Hi Sir,

Torq converter was replaced at appx, 300,000 plus miles, transmission received fluid changes. No issues with transmission.
Rear differential failed at 278,000 miles. I failed to do any fluid changes on rear diff.

What was the oil change history before Valvoline Restore and Protect? Were you burning oil?

Congrats well done!

My brother also has an '06, v6 manual transmission.

He's had the frame rot repaired by Toyota but it is starting to re-rust.

Did Toyota replace the frame under warranty, or did you put out some $$ ?
(& how much did yhey want?)

Did you have any issues following the replacement?

Brother's worried about reassembly problems...

Thanks for the info--

My son just picked up an 02 Tundra with the 3.4L. Only 120K on it. I hope it will make it as long as your rig.

One bonus of living in a desert....no rust.

I have on '04 with the 3.4 L. I was lucky that half of its life was in the desert too, so I just have surface rust. I'm hoping to hit 400k too! Fortunately everything is pretty fixable on them. Does your son have a valve cover gasket leak? That's about the only thing that goes wrong with the engine. $500 later (or much less if you do it yourself), you're ready for another 250k+ miles.

Owner he bought it from has records showing they were done a couple of years ago at a shop. Hopefully they did a good job on the install! So far, so good.

Nice he should be set then for a long time. I'm at 230k, and mine is leaking, but not on the exhaust yet, so I'm going to wait it out for now.

OCI every 5k. Full Synthetic oil name the brand I used it. burning (?) there was sight consumption during 5k OCI usually around 10 to 14 oz.
Since using Valvoline Restore and Protect engine is very quiet. I still have small amount of oil consumption but less appx., 6 to 8 oz during 5k OCI. Correct me if wrong. 6 to 8 oz is normal usage loss? For 5k OCI.

Under warranty. Did not pay a single cent. And Toyota gave me Ford Edge to drive while they swapped out frame. No issue with frame or other gremlins after repairs.
