Which HM oil has most effective additive for seals

Okay, so time for oil change and going to try a high mileage one to see if it'll help with the engine consumption due to having 160k miles on it and no leaks or black/blue smoke anywhere.

So, does anyone know which HM oil out there has the most effective seal coditioning additives?

I'm going to take a stab at this but take what I have to stay with a grain of salt.
Valvoline Maxlife from what I hear has one of the largest additive packs of the HM oils. M1 HM is also highly regarded.
 
The one that works best for your particular vehicle is the best one. Seriously...start with the cheapest and work your way up is it doesn't work. MaxLife is OK, so is M1 HM, but they don't share what has the most seal conditioners.
 
If I were to use a High Milage oil it would be Valvoline synthetic 10W30. Very low NOACK @ 7%. Although I replace my seals when they leak therefore I use regular synthetic 5W30 in winter & 10W30 in summer.
 
I have a leak from what I assume is the timing chain cover on my 2002 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 Vulcan engine.

The leak drips onto the heat shield of the catalytic converter and slowly burns off, it makes sitting at stoplights with the heat or A/C on a little smelly.

I would love to fix it, but you have to take everything off the engine to get to the cover, and from what it looks like it is major surgery.
My Father had it done to a 2000 Taurus with the 3.0 Vulcan along with other things, I think it was $1100 after everything was said and done.

I ran A-Rx in this 20,000 miles ago, some MMO for the last 1,000 miles 2 OCI's ago.
Don't know when this leak started, but it was after all that.

Thinking about running some short OCI's, although topping off is pretty much renewing my oil regularly. If that doesn't work I'll try some High Mileage Oils.
If all else fails I will start running cheap 15w40.

Same on my wife's Taurus about two months ago. $575 including a new water pump since you have to take it off anyway. So far it still leaks unless it's old oil coming from having leaked before.

RE: HM oil, my mom has a '99 Cadillac Northstar, which are known for burning oil. Oil consumption is noticeably less with Max Life, although I have not tried other HM oils in it. The car does NOT have high mileage, only about 65,000 on it.
 
I tried Maxlife syn blend twice with great results. Usually it will take 3-4 weeks to get rid of those slight leaks.
 
I have used Maxlife semi syn HM many times in numerous cars but I lean heavily towards Mobil 1 HM because it has a very good add pack and runs great in 2 of my cars. Cars have not lost any MPG and run much smoother on this oil then the Maxlife I used to use... Could depend on your application and if you want better(Mobil) or less expensive but still a good oil(Maxlife).
 
Maxlife and Supertech HM didn't do anything for the leaks in the Festiva. Pennzoil HM seemed a bit thicker although on paper it's about the same. I'm going with Castrol HM 10w30 next it's the thickest on paper anyways. I guess that doesn't answer your question about seal conditioners.. who knows try one doesn't work try the next. Cars are like women remember that and keep your sanity...
 
No one really knows. The oil companies market HM oils with smoke and mirrors, and never tell the suckers consumers what's actually in the bottle.

I'm not a huge bp fan, but Ive seen the castrol 10w30 gtx hm stop a leak in my car very quickly (few days). I have never tried any other hm oils, so I have nothing to compare it to. I have the castrol hm in now and m1 hm waiting in the basement.
 
Don't know which has "the most", but I know my first choice, MaxLife Sythetic Blend, still $13.50 for a 5qt. jug at Wally.

Great value on a highly respected oil around here.
 
Depending on the leak. I'd try Maxlife to see if either stops or at least minimizes the leak. Pretty much all HM's do a pretty good job. If it still leaks run the cheapest one you find till you can get it fixed.

The only advantage in HM oils is there claimed seal conditioners.
If you just want a thicker oil, their are better options available.
I'd be interested in who makes the lightest (lowest HTHS vis) HM oil?
 
MaxLife has the seal conditioners; it's slightly thicker in grade; and it's about 20% synthetic.

I often wonder why you guys would want to buy anything else when there's MaxLife available.

Yeah, sometimes we do worse by doing too much. On my Saturn I read a lot about MMO soaks so tried to do one since consumption was a quart every 3000 miles.. Figured it was time before it got too bad and therefore too late to do anything.

After the soak, consumption would jump from a pint every 1500 to a quart every 1500 (depending where I was on the OCI). Now it has been, at times, higher than a quart every 1350. If only we could undo something now and again.
