Which Fuel Pump

I got the VDO with sending unit. First of all it is a mistake that it is priced lower than the VDO without so its a deal from the get go, secondly it is actual OE with the OE symbols and info ground off. Both Pierburg and VDO were both used OE.

The original.

The Denso is a ripoff in comparison, it is a Pierburg same as the Hella with a huge Denso brand up charge, the Delphi is cheap chicom crap with a Delphi name up charge.

The OE pump from the dealer is over $400 and is identical to the VDO also made in Germany. I didn't bother with the Bosch as it is not an OE supplier for this car and is Chinese made also.

Out of those. Bosch, Hella/Pierburg and VDO would have been my picks.

I thought Bosch pumps for German cars were either Czech, Hungarian or Brazilian?

Little off topic, but of all the fuel pumps I've installed over the years - only one brand in particular had multiple failures (different vehicles) and had to be warrantied out and that was the spectra premium brand. They are sold by Rockauto, Autozone and others. Lifetime warranty means nothing with the labor of a fuel pump repair and hassle is considered.

That depends on where you are buy the part, in the USA some of their stuff is coming out of China as they have a huge manufacturing base there for their Chinese market vehicles.
Bought in Europe the same part may indeed come from China or more likely Hungary,Czech or Poland, the way to tell is those will be labeled accordingly on the box the Chinese one will have no COO labeling.

Nice topic and good learning points! Aftermarket parts are a maze of deceit unless you do your research.
When working on someone else's vehicle there usually that is usually not an option they need it back ASAP so its a trip to Napa or the dealer.
My own stuff I can lay the thing up for 2 years if I want to so I do all my own research and usually save a lot on bigger jobs. This vehicle is going to be up for 2-3 years starting in Sept, I am doing something (very cool) to it.

Yes if you have the time research it, many times the "trusted" big brands are nothing more than rebox with a price premium.

Say you bought the one from the dealer for $400 and put it in the car, you could then buy one from Rock for $119 and return it as DOA.
You now have an OE pump and $280 profit. Its criminal but there are some people that would do such a thing.
The other reason is they have a contract for OE marked only with VW in this case. If they have a lot of stock and need to thin it out the only way they can do it is to remove the OE markings.
