I have a 1989 chevy 1500 with a 350 5.7L v8 completely stock, the engine was rebuilt a while back and im trying to keep it clean. To be honest I have little to no knowledge on how to determine which cleaner works best. Any help will be appreciated thank you.

You will get many opinions, but Redline SI has worked the best for me and a few other members.

Redline SI-1, or Amsoil PI, if you're willing to order it.

What you 'want', is a cleaner with lots of Poly Ether Amine (PEA) in it - that's what does the cleaning.

I have seen it repeated that the Redline and the Techron Concentrate are the best. BMW re-sells techron concentrate as their BMW house-branded fuel injector cleaner, so that's a fairly strong vote of confidence in my books.

I know nothing about the Amsoil product other than they have a track record of excellent products overall.

Just keep in mind there is more than one Techron from Chevron. The one that says "with Techron" (Costco) is a milder version. BG 44K is another product a lot of people swear by.

You have to get the one that says concentrate or concentrated. It costs about double.

+1 On Red Line SL-1.

I get a much more noticeable gain in power from Red Line than I ever did with the other cleaners. It helps improve my MPG too. Red Line is a great product.

In the BG line the 44K is the shock treatment product. Very powerful cleaner. They also make a fuel treatment called CF5 which you do every 5K after the 44K. The 44K is pretty expensive and you only need to use it once.

The Techron concentrate and Gumout® REGANE® are both very good over the counter products.

I've found Redline and BG44K to have the most positive effect when used. The Redline is about 1/3 the price of the BG though.

Using top tier fuels on a continual basis also helps keep your fuel system clean.

GM sells their FI cleaner in a grey Techron bottle, but for $22 instead of $14 for actual techron. I got into an argument with a service writer over that because my fatherinlaw brought his gmc van there and they told him he must use the GM stuff to maintain the warranty (yeah, he was an advocate for dealership servicing, and they saw sucker written all over the van). Well there was no warranty at all because the van was modified with an add-on.. carpet steam cleaning machine. GM's policy at the time was, vehicle modified, no warranty.
So he tells me, I bring a bottle of Techron in, and i compare it with the GM gray bottle, aside from GM's tag, it was 100% the same stuff. We know GM has Chevron fuel trucked in to their testing grounds, it only makes sense they'd use it.

But my vote is for SI-1, Seafoam then Regane.

I like techron, I know it works, but chevron's made enough money last year from jacking up gas prices for no reason. so... I'm boycotting them for 3 years to make up for it.

im going to try the redline Sl-1 it seems to have great reviews and as mentioned before is a fraction of the cost. thanks for all your help.

Red Line is great. It's the only fuel system cleaner I have used that I actually have a noticeable increase in power when I press the throttle. It helped improve my MPG too. I use a bottle when about 200 to 300 miles before an oil change.

Red Line every 3000 miles and 2.5 ounces of MMO per each 10 gallons of fuel at every fill-up really helps my truck run its best.

I've used both Red Line Si-1 and BG 44k. Both are excellent. In my area, Pep Boys is the only place I can find Si-1 and it's ~ $7/bottle.

However, 44K now runs ~ $25 a can! 10 years ago I paid $15 a can! So I've stopped using it.

I've also used Tecron concentrate when it was on sale and convienent.

My list is 1) Gum-Out's 2-Step Cleaner (through the intake, then the conentrate added to the tank), 2) Chevron Concentrate, 3) Seafoam, 4) MMO.

No bad remarks about MMO, but I think it falling in last is largely due to the awkwardness of measuring it out at the pump

That and I didn't notice much difference - likely due to the other 3 products I used previously

Note: they were used in about a 2-3 year time frame, about 6-8 months apart from each other so it wasn't like I just dumped them all into the tank at the same time :)

Well, I used to throw a quarter at Garden State Parkway toll booth few years ago. Now full one dollar get charged to my EZpass account.

This is inflation!

The best value is Regane Complete Fuel System Cleaner..Techron Total Fuel System Cleaner can almost always be found on sale.

DO NOT BUY the watered down "fuel injector cleaner" versions of these products as they have very little of the critical detergent in them.

Regane contains as much PEA detergent as the much more expensive red line at usually 2/3 or less the price.

Don't worry about the brand on that label. The only thing that counts is whether or not it has PEA detergent and if that percentage is at least 40% or more.
