Which cheap oil for extended OCI's? LOL

Is it possible to teach your aunt how to change her oil? If it's a truck, she might be able to change her oil without a jack, so that would take a LOT of the safty issues out of the way if she can reach her oil drain plug and filter without having to lift the truck at all, then you wouldn't have to worry about her working a jack and jack stands. I know I can change my sisters oil in her wrangler without a jack.

Hows it go? You can give a person a fish, or teach them how to fish...

If it was a family member of mine, I'd want to see more then two oil changes a year on the cheapest oil you can find. The ST Syn is a good answer, but if she uses oil, she will still have to add. The stuff can be hard to find in 1qt bottles, and you usually have to buy the 5qt jug. I've been seeing more stuff at my local walmart, but I also had to email walmart to get them to stock what I wanted.

I like the Chevron for $.49 after rebate. Chevron makes excellent Grp II oils.

I don’t know what type of mileage you’re talking about for a once a year OCI, but a Grp II should make 6K miles without a problem and once a year would be fine as long as the oil gets topped up once in a while if it needs to.

You could get by with a 10w-30, but if it gets much below 0F you’d probably want a 5w-30 spec’d oil.

I am surprised no one mentioned Mobil 7500. A fairly inexpensive oil (approx $2) that is rated for longer drains than their standard M 5000. The VOA's of this oil show that it has more additives than the M 5000.
