Not sure why this popped into my cranium but I was at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ with my cousin and her friend....
We felt guilty for having a good time..

Funny, me too. Except our Chevy van was a 72 “Step Van” converted into a small RV.

Also heard it on the radio while traveling on vacation in that van.

I remember vividly ! we were rolling home from vacation on the 401 in the 73 new yorker just outside of Toronto.
Funny this post brought out a memory of one of my dad's sayings when we were running late .
Time to haul ass and burn gas !
When we were on vacation he liked running at night a lot less traffic back in the 60's and 70's and back then the speed limit was 70mph on the 401 so 80 mph to 100 mph was common for him depending on the area and funny enough I never remember him being stopped by the O.P.P I guess the police were not a big presence at night back then ? He loved his New Yorker and Imperial and always said he never had a car that cruised at speed like those two .

We heard the news of his death when we were in Rapid City, South Dakota.

August 1977 - I had a summer job, working noon to 8 p.m. I was driving to work and heard it announced on the AM radio in my '71 Biscayne. Only two stations to choose from - it was either JC55 (550 kHz) or The Big NL (610 kHz).

Edit: @Snagglefoot, those stations were both out of Kamloops. Do you ever pick them up in your part of the world?

My parents kept me home from school to watch JFK's funeral. I was in Grade 1.

I remember both the MLK and RFK assassinations when I was in Grade 5.
