Hi.

I need a 8 gauge oxygen free wire to replace a positive battery wire. Because my car has a hard starting problem when the engine is hot. I got a PM from somebody who had the same problem but he got rid of that by replacing the oxygen free wire. So I would like to try. I live in lansing MI. Here isn't any car audio shop or racing shop. Even I tried to find on the Internet, but I couldn't. Would let me know where I can get it?

Thanks.

All 8 guage for example, are not equal. A wire with a very high strand count (small individual wires) will carry much more current than the same guage wir with thicker wires and a lower strand count. Oxygen free or not. Welding cable is usually high strand, excellant wire. Try a welding shop and go with 2 or 4 guage and put your own ends on it.

Not to hijack the thread, but I always wondered how to attach the lug terminals on large gauge cable. Fill the lug with solder? Crimp (more like hammer and punch)? Combination of both?

Crimping AND soldering is best.
Hard to find shrink tubing that size without buying a buying a
full length tube. Good careful wrapping with electrical tape is also a good idea.

go to car stereo shop that sells subwoofer power wire. pick up some wire for that, but dont use 8 gauge. go for 6 or 4 or my favourite, 2 gauge.
i like to crimp and solder the terminals, then apply silicone and heatshrink.

LOL! What makes you think Oxygen-free copper wire is going to excel ordinary automotive grade copper wiring of the same gauge and strands?

O-free copper is expensive but good for audio use but to use it mainly in automotive application such as powering ECU, starter, etc. isn't going to make things any better at all (and it burns a bigger hole in your wallet).

It only works if you get the polarity right
