When do you fill your gas tank?

Under normal conditions (home area & no hurry), I refuel when the fuel light comes on. That's what the light is for, right? 🤷‍♂️ My road vehicles can both go at least 60 miles after that light comes on, and I've never had a fuel pump issue when running the tank until the light comes on... or for that matter, a fuel pump issue of any kind. And usually I refuel on a Tues or Wed just to avoid the weekend price spikes. On a road trip, I refuel around 1/4 tank... who knows when the next services will come.

You filling up on the NJTPK? Even NJ residents avoid that. My family fills up at Wawa. Their attendants are usually better trained and behaved than other NJ gas stations.
Although NJ does not allow customers to fill up gas, the stations that I go to I am able to fill it up by myself.

Gas is too expensive nowadays. Costco is the only place rag is under $4 per gallon.
The uppity gas stations are pushing $5 per gallon for crappy CA wanna be 91 octane "premium"
So I fill up at 3/4 tank so it doesn't hurt so bad.

When do I fill my gas tank?
Well, usually it is late at night right after the neighbors fill their gas tanks.
IfyaknowwhatImean. Wink Wink. Nod Nod.

But in the TRUE spirit of the question. I fill when the needle hits the quarter line on the gauge and I pass by a preferred station. In my Mazda 6, the 1/4 line on the dial seems like 1/3 of the tank left in usability.

When the 50 mile DTE come on, It still has about 4 gallons left in my 23.5 gal tank. That is soon enough IMO. Plus I get grocery store discounts on up to 20 gallons so that is about when I fill up. Squeak, squeak, squeak

Winter time l try not letting it go below 3/8ths. Summer time usually slightly below 1/4.

I lm in NJ, home of full serve gas. The gas taxes here used to be low and it would make sense to top off before an out of state road trip.
The gasoline taxes have spiked here and now l don't top off before leaving the state as l no longer pay a premium out of state and l can pump it myself w/o waiting all day for the attendant to pump it.

It’s generally once/week for me, which is usually a 1/2 tank. I watch it like a hawk after 1/2 a tank if I do go below it.

Friend of my told me about his son, who used to wait until the fuel light was on. One time, he had been on the fuel light for a couple of days, meaning to stop and fill it. Then a tornado hit while he was driving, and he ran out of gas. He thankfully wasn’t hit, but it was close, and his truck sat for a couple of days while waiting for power to come back on so he could buy fuel....

I won’t go below 1/4 tank.

On my frequently used vehicle, whenever I am at Costco and the tank is under 1/2.

For my less frequently used vehicles, I wait until 1/8 or lower in order to use up as much old fuel as possible.

when? quarterly, and only 10l. (2.6gal)
because that´s enough to warm up, and gas older than 3 month is going weird.
majority is lpg. (y)

I'm a 1/2 tank kind of guy. My first car didn't really have a working gas gauge, my current pickup doesn't have a great gas gauge. Would rather not be caught by surprise.

Habit of half tank here x 4 car's even summer months, before half on winter due to unexpected road traffic, snow storm's etc. Our Costco gas station a mile away.

Half a tank kind of guy. I also attempt (pretty successful too) to use the same fuel all the time. SHELL oil & gas are abundant in my area so that is what I use to fuel up.

I always top off when the gauge is between 1/4 and 1/2 full. I haven't had a low fuel warning light come on on years. I also could be snowed in, or worse have to evacuate because of a forest fire at any time so it seems wise to have a good amount of gas in the tank at all times.
