When did Mobil 1 ATF become so fragrant?

ExxonMobil no longer recommends it in Honda/Acura Z1 applications, so I believe that it has changed.

there was a thread about it, many here were concern about it when M1 change the label, and someone called the M1 support. the story was, there was no formula change, M1 decided to stick with "approved, license" list only, and not want to tangle with any of "exceed, recommend" on the bottle. judge from their other M1 product, in line with their marketing.

That could be. Honda folks say the Mobil 1 ATF never ran well in their transmissions anyway. Other offerings like the Valvoline and Castrol products run much better, and at least as good as OEM fluid.

agree!
during my search of after market ATF, i recall there were 2 or more ATF from M1, Mobil 1 ATF, and M1 Multi vehicle formula ATF. the Mobil 1 ATF was on the market for a long time and I did not see any of positive report in Honda application. not sure about amy M1 MVF atf. but then there is Maxlife under cut the price, while Redline and Amsoil already occupied on high end market and all have good feedback.
