reason for both Bosch and K@N is I'm gonna try a K@N this oil change and if it doesn't help/fix my noisy lifters on cold mornings I'm going back to the Bosch. I saw earlier on this board that the K@N's have a different anti-drainback valve so I was thinking the K@N's might be better than the Bosch's.

It would be easier to answer your question if you'd post the standard filter size. But if this is the 5.2 OHV Chrysler V8, it will use the same oversize filter (provided you don't have clearance problems) that my 300M uses, the SuperTech ST8A. The HP-3001 is the equivalent K&N filter. I'm not sure about the Bosch part number. Here are some others:

Motorcraft FL1A
Wix 51515
NAPA 1515
Purolator PureOne PL30001
AC Delco PF2
Baldwin B2

Plenty to choose from. The PureONE 40017 is larger yet, and should fit your 318 lengthwise. Bypass is 7-9psi. Carquest has a wix equivalent though you'll have to look it up from the PureOne number. Baldwin's B2-HPG is a very nice upgrade from the B2, though the same size. Bypass still 8psi. Glass media & front bypass valve. K&N doesn't have an equivalent size to the 40017, but their 3001 should be good. It's the same size as the 30001 but their flow and filtration is supposed to be very good.

I don’t believe you can fit an oversized filter on the 5.2 due to clearance issues. I think you are stuck with the standard PH16 (or its equivalent) filter size. This is based on what many have said on the Jeep forums. I would just look for a high quality filter with a good anti-drain back valve. My guess is that your hydraulic valve lash adjusters are just worn.

Well darren, you're right. My apologies. Hadn't realized conflicts there vs. the I6. The 5.2 in my pickup has plenty of room but it has IFS.

Just a note, the factory manual specs a forgiving 9-15psi for bypass.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure at all if a longer filter could fit because mine is right by the exhaust manifold and can be hard to get to. I think i'll just browse around Advance Auto Parts (only place that sells K@N oil filters around here) and see what they have for oversized filters. My main goal is to fix/help the noisy lifters if its possible with a good filter so if a standard size K@N does the trick I won't worry about an oversized filter. I think its a matter of having a good antidrain back valve, because it wasn't until it got to 40 degrees and below did the engine ever tick for a second or less on cold startup. Back in the summer I was running 20w50 Maxlife and a quart of Lucas and it never once ticked on startup.
