Whats the best sounding car you have ever heard?

I used to own a BIG old Chevy pickup, 1979, with a 454. This enourmous engine was EPA neutered to 205hp, but it had about a million pounds of torque. One of the cylinders was bad so it was only running on 7. The exhaust was flowmasters without tailpipes. I used to love to go out and start it up and sit inside and enjoy it's music.

Additionally, the vac hose to the tranny was unhooked, so I only had first and second gear in a TH400. I drove that thing down the highway many times ROARING at 4000+ RPMs and nothing could make me happier. (always on 7 cylinders)

Not only did it sound amazing, but the smell of the exhaust, with unburned fuel and no cats, was delicious. I wish they would bottle that smell in a 12oz spray can.

Most impressive sound I've ever heard from a car was one of the Can Am McLaren's,with the big block Chev.It was total sensaround....I was being pulled in and could feel my orifices dilating.Even more respect for Deny Hulme - to think that he spent hours inside those things wrestling them around the track.

In a long time, the best sounding car that I've heard was a workmate's Hilux on the weekend.

I'd rate the ford firing order inferior to the SBC (personally)...but better than the Olds and Holden that sound like one bank is half flat.

For a common engine, the current 2.4L Honda K24's sounds great when revved out to 6K or so. What makes the sound so nice is the engine sounds like it is actually enjoying it.

I had a '98 and it sounded sweet.

Borla exhaust made it sweeter.

The streetflight turbo system made an even sweeter sound.

It was bittersweet to let it go, but that was the right decision and I've not really looked back.

....not to mention blood alcohol at twice the legal limit. Interesting fact, thanks for posting this!

I'm surprised a guy in texas knows who Tim Horton is. You wouldn't find a Canadian who doesn't know that name, even if they don't know he was a hockey player before making donuts!

Hey,

I know about Tim Horton and Tim Hortons. Of course part of that is because I'm trying to sort out the value of the Tim Hortons stock we sold this year after the Wendy's deal, LOL.

Ford's 302HO/351W firing order was superior to GM's by a long shot. That's why it was adopted as the OBDII firing order and why the LSx engines now fire in the same order as a small block Ford

Ford's non-HO firing order on the 302 was identical to GM's.

The HO (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) firing order had the most even load on the crankshaft and made more power.

This is why there were "switch" cams available for SBC's that proclaimed an increase in power by switching the order of two cylinders in the sequence.

I don't know but I'm getting sick of lopey v8's that sound is everywhere and is everybodies favorite.

I think my favorite sounding V8 is an 03-04 Cobra. Not neccessarily my favorite sounding engine.

I think the NSRT-4 is the best sound 4 cylinder though. Good god the sound those things make at WOT.

The Ford Supercoupe thunderbird sounds really good.

Yes!

Seriously, I heard a new Mustang GT500 start-up on the lot the other day. It sounded pretty good, but the driver didn't get on it. I had a Dynomax muffler on my 318 ci Dakota, and it sounded great. Almost any V8 with the right aftermarket exhaust sounds good IMO. I hope to install a Magnaflow on my 4.6l 3v Sport Trac.

By far for me it would be any 90 degree V-twin sport bike engine at 9000+ RPM and open exhaust. Think Ducati or Suzuki SV1000!!! YUMMY!

The bellow of the Acura NSX's V6 is pretty musical while flying down the highway with the roof off. But I love everything about that car.
