I agreed. The factory exhaust sounded pretty good with RPM above 5k, specially the early version AP1 with 9k red line.

Probably the best sounding cars I've heard are Mercedes AMG v8's. This guy launched beside us (and we were in my other neighbor's 08 Z06 Corvette), and it sounded unbelievable. My neighbor with the Corvette said he needed a new exhaust right then and there.

There's a guy who lives within a few miles of me that I've heard driving his porsche carrera GT. That thing sounds like an F1 car or a superbike. It's an unreal sound that as it's coming closer to you. It's like nothing you've ever heard on the street before.

Best 6 cylinder sound are the nissan's/infinity's with the vq35. Nissan has some of the best sorted factory exhaust sound for a mainstream manufacturer of performance cars.

Worst exhaust sound from the factory. e46 BMW M3.

All of the above, just one guy's opinion.

Dude! That there is a good post! The images in my head. You must live in an affluent neighborhood. Out here in Nebraska there ain't too many sports cars. I guess the most awesome exhaust I ever heard is that of GE's ES 44AC. 4400hp V12 Caterpillar diesel. When you get on it it is hard to describe the thundering staccato. Boom Boom Boom!

As for cars, well when I was in my teens and bagging groceries at Publix, this one time this guy drove up in a Pantera to pick up his groceries. I will forever remember the exhaust of that yellow half-breed.

Back when I was a kid, a good friend of ours owned a wrecker company, in which he did long distance hauls of exotic cars on occasion. He arrived at our house one day with a Pantera on his flatbed. I remember him telling my dad that it had a V-8 with 8 carburetors. When he cranked that car with it sitting on the flatbed, the ground shook. We had people from the other side of the neighborhood coming up to check it out. That car sounded incredible!

Those things sound great as well. Screaming 351 cleveland!

I forgot to mention my friend's Factory 5 Cobra project that I built the engine for. It's a 348 stroker based on a '92 Mustang GT 302. Trick flow heads, intake, some kind of headers and side pipes. Insanely noisy and fun. Stomping on the gas on that baby makes a nearly 40 year old guy like me giggle like a school girl. It's in many ways more thrilling to drive than my 167HP motorcycle!

I know what addguy means about the common 2.8 V6s. They had a lot of good qualities.
I am bored with built Chevy v8s. Yawn...
I like the sound of old British sports cars with no cats on them.
And try and get the sound of a ripping Ducati motorcycle out of your head.

Mid-70's cadillac, smaller than the 500 ci motor but still big, in a parade. Silent except for a distant thunder rumble. Sick!

....not to mention blood alcohol at twice the legal limit. Interesting fact, thanks for posting this!

I'm surprised a guy in texas knows who Tim Horton is. You wouldn't find a Canadian who doesn't know that name, even if they don't know he was a hockey player before making donuts!

The Police Interceptor in Mad Max.

Well, maybe not, but I love that movie...

My old '65 Dodge Coronet with a 383-4V and factory dual exhaust. That 383 would rev freely like a small-block and put out torque like a big-block. The sound of that engine at idle was very good, but with the secondaries open on the highway she sounded and moved absolutely incredible.

The sound of my ex-girlfriend's Grand Am circa 1997, after she had packed her things and was leaving my apartment for the last time. What a sweet sound!
